Ghana’s Osu Government Hospital saw its major renovation under the ruling NPP government since it was built. The project was spearheaded by the First Lady of Ghana, Madam Rebecca Akuffo-Addo under her Rebecca Foundation.

“It was my pleasure today, to commission the renovated and refurbished Osu Government Maternity Home.  Osu maternity home plays a significant role in routine and emergency intervention.

For eighty-nine years, this facility has provided safe maternal health care for the people of Osu and its environs. Over these years, the facility has seen its share of wear and tear, without any major works. 
This is the first-ever major works in the Home’s almost ninety years.
Being a native of Osu myself, the safety of our Osu women, especially during delivery, is dear to my heart. That is why it was so important to me to renovate this home.

Although Ghana’s maternal and infant mortality rates have decreased in recent years, we still need to do better. #TheRebeccaFoundation is a committed partner in Ghana’s agenda to reduce our maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates.

Since 2017, we have pursued this agenda with a great sense of duty, by building, renovating and equipping facilities all over the country. Today, it is the turn of the people of Osu to have a well-fitted maternity home, to ensure safe delivery for our mothers and the safety of our new-borns.

On behalf of #TheRebeccaFoundation, I sincerely thank the Chinese Embassy in Ghana for their support towards the renovation works of the Osu Maternity Home. I also thank the contractors Build- Haap Ltd, for the excellent work done. 
My expectation is that this renovation will lead to improved uptake of services at this facility. Together we will eradicate maternal and infant mortality and build a healthy nation.
