As part of the winning package, the winner was to fly to Dubai alongside her runner ups. The issue, of course, got social media buzzing as most people felt it was unfair. But what most people haven’t taken their time to know is what the airline policies say about plus-size passengers.

While each airline has its own weight restrictions, the general rule is an oversize passenger buys an additional seat if he or she cannot go into one seat. Also, such passengers are required to make a purchase of an extra seat or choose to be in the Premium Economy cabin.

‘American Airlines requires passengers to purchase a second seat if they need a seatbelt extension and their body “extends more than 1 inch beyond the outermost edge of the armrest.” The airline recommends that you buy both seats during your original booking (at the same rate), the American Etra Space Policy highlighted.
