Legendary singer and rapper Akon has announced some big plans. He is about to build a new city in Senegal.
He is also going to base the economy of the new city around his new cryptocurrency dubbed Akoin.
He recently took to Instagram writing “Just finalized the agreement for Akon City in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future.”
The producer was born in Missouri however he is of Senegalese descent. He made the big announcement speaking at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
In front of the panel called Branding Africa, Akon said that the city will be called the Akon Crypto City.
He also added that the proposed Akoin currency will be the ”savior of Africa” in many ways. This is because of the currency’s security benefits.
“The system of the cryptocurrency allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow the government to do those things that are keeping them down,” said Akon.
When the panel asked him questions regarding the city’s construction, Akon replied saying “I come with the concepts and let the geeks figure it out.”
Akon Crypto city will be built on 2000 acres of land. The land was gifted to the musician by the President on Senegal.

The city will be stationed only five minutes away from the new international airport.
It will also be close to the coast and a short drive from Dakar, the country’s capital.
Akon who is very excited about the project said that it will be a real life Wakanda – the high tech city in Black Panther.
