Buhari Imposes Lockdown On Nigeria As Coronavirus Recorded Cases Surge
President Muhammadu Buhari has imposed a nation-wide lockdown on Nigeria as the government grapples with a surge in the cases of coronavirus infections. Previously only Lagos and Ogun states together with the capital, Abuja were under that condition.
In a televised announcement, the president mentioned that the measure which is in a form of a curfew comes into force on 4th May. It will only be between 8pm to 6pm. Thus economic activities will take place during the day to ensure the country does not fall into a recession.
Many citizens have hailed the new directives which also called for mandatory face masks and a prohibition of inter-state movement. Nigeria has over the past few days seen an increase in the pandemic cases with a 1,042 recorded cases and 40 deaths which includes Buhari’s chief of staff.
