Man Arrested For Insulting Islam In Nigeria
A young man has been arrested on blasphemous charges in northern Nigeria. Mubarak Bala, a former Muslim and boisterous atheist, was arrested last night for making posts on the social media platform deemed disparaging to the religion of Islam.
The Kaduna State-based activist came to wide attention when his family locked him up in a psychiatric hospital in 2014. He was condemned for his apostasy against Islam, the dominant religion in northern Nigeria.
Sharia law is applied in tandem with the constitution of Nigeria in the north of the country. Death sentence is recommended for people who desert Islam or those who speak against the. Many Nigerians have condemned the arrest and are demanding the truncation of his trial and immediate release.
