Asamoah Gyan has revealed representing Ghana at the 2008 African Cup of Nations cost him a big transfer to Premier League team Manchester City.
He said playing AFCON 2008 is one of the actions he regrets ever taking in his football career.
Gyan‘s performance at the tournament was one which drew much criticisms because the brilliant player did not live up to expectation.
There was a whole drama leading to the tournament as the Skipper threatened to quit the team with his brother and J.A Kuffuor, Ghana’s President at that time, had to convince them to stay.
”I regret playing at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, because I was injured but I felt I needed to sacrifice but yet I was criticized,” Gyan said on GTV’s Sports Highlights show.
”I really regret playing in the tournament, because even after that I had to go out for five months.
”I was supposed to sign for Manchester City but I missed. That has been one of my biggest regrets with the national team.” He told legendary Kwabena Yeboah.
