She was approached by a woman who enquired of her mission at the hospital. The stranger then told her she would not be attended to if she was not wearing a face mask.

The woman took her to the pharmacy ostensibly to get the face mask and a pair of gloves, the items needed before the health professionals would attend to her.

She added that while in the queue to buy the items, the woman offered to help carry her baby. After taking the baby, she instructed Mariam Yahaya to wait while she bought something at the next block.

That was the last time she saw her baby and the stranger. Sandwiched by her equally distraught relatives, the young woman remained inconsolable.

Her spouse, Nasiru Abubakar, a visibly frustrated person revealed he cannot eat or think through since the incident happened.

The young couple has called on the hospital management and the Kumasi police to help in tracking down the woman and subsequent retrieval of their baby.

The hospital has confirmed knowledge of the unfortunate incident and pledges to liaise with the police to bring closure to the case.

A similar story happened at the same hospital some six years ago. A baby delivered was hours later declared dead. However its corpse could not be found for burial.

Angry youth from the mother’s community stormed the facility, the second largest hospital in Ghana to cause mayhem leading to arrests by the police.
