Soldiers Arrested In A Daylight Bullion Van Robbery In Nigeria

On July 29, 2020, a bullion van was attacked in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital in Nigeria. According to recent reports, seven suspects have been arrested in connection to the attack.

The seven suspects includes serving and dismissed soldiers were arrested after a manhunt was launched by operatives f the inspector- General of Police Intelligence Response Team(IRT).

With support from the Technical Intelligence Unit, the police arrested one Mr Alfred Robinson who helped them arrest six more gang members.

Suspects arrested in connection to the robbery included; Sgt Ayeni Samuel, a Nigerian Soldier serving in Ikeja, Lagos; Cpl Emeka Harrison a dismissed Soldier who had served in Maiduguri Borno State; Emeka Illo, the Sponsor of the operation; and Abuchi Elijah Aka “ Chime D Mosquito” an Informant for the robbers and Ibanifiroi Ekiene a native of Tombia Community.

The suspects also confessed that 4 out of the rifles recovered belongs to the Policemen they killed during the robbery. They are reportedly assisting the police in arresting the remaining members of their gang.
