President Edgar Lungu of Zambia has pleaded with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping for debt relief as his country grapples with the economic fallout linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

The request was made during a telephone call between the two leaders yesterday. President Lungu blamed the country’s reduced revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic on its inability to service the loan.

“President Lungu called for debt relief and cancellation in light of reduced revenue due to the negative impact of the pandemic, as well as competing needs for the country, to secure adequate resources to fight the pandemic and to stimulate the economy” .

The two leaders also talked about other mutual issues. They also agreed to enhance co-operation between the countries as China seeks to expand its influence on the African continent.

A group of Nigierian lawyers have initiated a legal suit against China in a high court sitting in the capital, Abuja. The group alleged China was to blame for the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has brought the world to a halt.

They postulated that the defendant was culpable in the whole incident and are demanding a whopping $200 billion compensation to mitigate their loss of revenue.

The twenty-five lawyers are led by Professor Epiphany Azinge, Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) and are determined to present their case and take home their compensation.

The defendants in the suit are listed as the Peoples’ Republic of China, Communist Party of China, Minister of Justice China, Minister in charge of the National Health Commission, National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan Institute of Virology and Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

They accused China of negligence after the country refused to inform the World Health Organisation and other countries on the outbreak of the viral disease which has since infected twelve million people and culminated in 542,000 deaths.

This will not be the first time a country has vowed to force China to pay for compensation on its loss of economic fortunes caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Even if the lawyers succeed with their case, China has told the global world it cannot be held responsible for the ongoing pandemic. Thus, it has absorb itself from any blame and subsequent legal actions.

The coronavirus disease was reported in late 2020 in the city of Wuhan, central China. However many health experts believed that it was much earlier and China had tried to suppressed it in its initial stages.

The disease subsequently spread through air travel across the globe leaving in its way colossal damage to world economies.

Let me admit that this article is in poor taste. On any other given day I would criticize fairly and even give the benefit of doubt to certain things.

However, what is happening in China currently- the treatment meted to blacks, and by extension foreigners, is despicable and should not be encouraged.

When the coronavirus emerged, its epicenter was in Wuhan, China. The reported number of cases and deaths were heartbreaking but the whole world rallied behind China.

As it would turn out, the coronavirus was not contained in China and started spreading to other parts of the world. Countries in Europe and the Americas were hardly hit by the spread of the coronavirus.

At one point Italy became the epicenter with the most recorded cases and deaths. Now the United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK) are grappling worse situations related to COVID-19.

And of course, Africa has had its fair share of this crisis. Only two (2) countries or so on the continent have not recorded a case of the coronavirus.

But it goes without saying that the impact of this pandemic on the socio-economic condition of almost all African countries will be dire. That said, it would be unreasonable to apportion blame of this pandemic to China.

Although at the onset of the pandemic, there were great concerns for Chinese, and even Asians in general, living in other countries because of the racism behaviors towards them.

When the United States President, Donald Trump, referred to the coronavirus as the ‘Chinese virus’, Amnesty International as well as many journalists and global commentators alike jumped to China’s defense.

Indeed, in this crisis, racism is not the best way forward. So it beats one’s imagination that after almost defeating the coronavirus, China has turned around to maltreat blacks and foreigners.

What is happening in China is racism and should stop. The atrocities are making some sections of people believe that Chinese deserved the treatment they were initially subjected to.

Alas, they are doing worse to black people in their country. It is absolutely pointless to target foreigners because as it has been well established now, the virus is no respecter of person.

By all means, China should carry out protocols to minimize the spread of the coronavirus in the country. But they should do so with the dignity of all involved persons intact.

The earlier China stops this nonsense, the better it would be for the world. This is definitely not the right way to go in these times of global pandemic and looming economic crisis.

An American lawyer Larry Klayman and his advocacy group Freedom Watch along with Texas company Buzz Photos have filed a $20 trillion lawsuit against Chinese authorities over the outbreak of Coronavirus.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit claimed Coronavirus is a biological weapon developed by the Chinese authorities and are demanding $20 trillion in damages.

They also accused the country of aiding and abetting death, conspiracy to cause injury and death of US citizens, provision of material support to terrorists, negligence, wrongful death, and assault and battery.

The Chinese government, Chinese army, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Director of Wuhan Institute of virology Shi Zhengli and Chinese army’s Major General Chen Wei were called on as defendants in the suit.

The Group alleged that Coronavirus was released from the Wuhan Virology Institute and was deigned to kill mass populations. They cited multiple media reports that said there was only one microbiology lab in china that handled advance viruses like Coronavirus in Wuhan.

They also accused the Chinese authorities for silencing Doctors and researchers who spoke out about the virus, covering up the crime by linking their statements on coronavirus with national security protocols.

A report from Global Times has indicated that another virus has surfaced in China.

A man from Yunnan in China died in a public transport after testing positive for the virus known as Hantavirus.

The report also revealed that all 32 passengers onboard the bus were tested for the virus.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Hantavirus is a family of viruses that are spread by rodents and can cause varied diseases in people.

The virus is not airborne but can be spread when humans come into contact with feces, urine or saliva of rodents. It is rare for the virus to be transmitted from person-person.

It can cause hantivirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) and haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS).
