Ghanaian Actor and Fashion Icon, Elikem Kumordzie, has revealed the reason why he quit acting to pursue his fashion design career was that he was paid close to peanuts leaving him hungry when we was acting.

Elikem Kumordzie said that he spent all his energy on TV screens but movie producers treated him like an amateur, draining his energy but refusing to pay his wage.

“I was hungry from being an actor because you find work but won’t get paid enough for the work. You spend days on set and because you are passionate about acting, you shut up.“

Reminiscing his days as an actor, he said producers used him as an errand boy whenever they pleased and he gladly obliged.

“I remember back in the day they will send me on my motorbike. When they forget their microphone and cameras, I’m the one to go pick it up. I was literally an errand boy.”

He sided with Kofi Adjorlolo for saying some movie producers owe movie actors but he echoed his story has helped him become a better version of himself.

“I agree a hundred percent that producers in Ghana don’t pay. Some of them do, some don’t and some will pay you s’’t amount literally. But for me I actually appreciate producers not paying me because it made me who I am.”

He is of the view that, acting alone cannot put enough food on ones table and actors will remain poor if they depend solely on the profession.

Using himself as an example, Elikem said he went hungry during his acting days because all he got was only exposure but not money.
