A 52-year old pastor, Adetokunbo Adenokpo, has been apprehended by police for allegedly kidnapping a dispatch rider and keeping him hostage in an underground facility in his church in Sagamu, Lagos.

According to the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Frank Mba, who paraded the victim before reporters, today, July 29, the pastor who is the General Overseer of the Newlife Church of God in Sagamu, Ogun state, during interrogation, said he ventured into kidnapping so he could raise money for his charity works.

Luck however eluded him after he and members of his gang abducted a dispatch rider, Job Ekpe Jonathan, who had come to his church to deliver some products.

DCP Mba revealed that the victim had arrived at the suspect’s church to deliver some products and was held captive by the pastor and his gang members. The pastor injected Jonathan with anesthesia to weaken him so they could tie him up easily.

Narrating his modus operandi to the press, Adenokpo said

“In my church we do charity, where I share food and palliative to people and this became stronger during the COVID-19. I felt pity for people and I don’t have any money in my account and people still come to me for help.

A few weeks ago we were short of funds. So I had the idea of doing something for Ileya so I can get some bags of rice and beans and palm oil and other things to share, and probably with a ram, which we can cut and give to poor people and we thought we should get money from the rich companies and then raise money and use it to take care of poor people.

The three of us were involved in the kidnap of Jonathan with the hope of raising funds for the Ileya. I injected him because he was struggling I did not want him to be injured”.

Kidnappers who abducted Joseph Masin, a bishop and chairman of the Nasarawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has made contact with his family.

They have reportedly made a ransom demand of ₦20million before they will release him from their custody.

A son of the abducted clergyman, Peace Masin narrated how about seven gun-wielding bandits stormed their home and abducted their father amid gunshots.

Giving an update on the unfortunate incident, deputy chairman to the association, Pastor Tayo  Samuel told newsmen that the kidnappers have made contact with the family.

He added that they are making a ransom demand of a whopping ₦20m before he would he released to his family.

The deputy chairman also added that the association has initiated a negotiation process to meet the abductors’ demand.

When reached out for comments, the state commissioner of police, Bola Longe disclosed that investigations are far advanced to nab them.

A Nigerian man has been jailed 26 years for kidnapping a 14 year old girl and forcefully marrying her.

Justice Jane Inyang a Federal High Court judge in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, sentenced Yinusa Dalhiru to 26 years imprisonment for the offence.

The convict abducted the then 14-year-old teenage girl, Ese Oruru, from her home in Bayelsa State, southern Nigeria and transported her to Kano State in the north.

He converted the girl to Islam and changed her name to Aisha. He forcefully got married to the teenager and impregnated her. The girl gave birth to a girl the following year.

The incident went viralsl across the country in 2015 when the media repored Ese’s abduction.

It was gathered that Yinusa had met the teenager at her mother’s shop where he buys food. He abducted and took her to Kano on August 12th, 2015.

After months of outcry from her parents and child rights activists, she was returned to her parents in March 2016, pregnant with a child. She was delivered of her baby two months later.

Yinusa Dalhiru was arrested and put before a court on charges of child trafficking, child abuse, rape, kidnap, infringement of right of religion, and holding a person against their will.

After several years of trial, he was founded guilty of all the charges. His plea of mitigation was rejected by the female judge who handed him that long prison sentence.

A teenager has been arrested for staging his own kidnapping. He confessed to planning with his friends in order to fleece his father of 500,000 naira ($1,400) as ransom.

The incident happened in the central Nigerian city of Jos in Plateau State.

Many suspects were arrested to help in the investigation. However, the police traced the alleged kidnapper’s number to the victim’s friend. Upon his apprehension, the suspect divulged the whole plan.

He then led the police to the victim’s hide-out. The victim-cum-suspect, when interrogated, admitted to the crime.

He said he wanted to buy some new clothes and shoes to celebrate his impending graduation as an electrical fitting apprentice.
