Global Coronavirus Infections Surpass 5m With 400,000 Deaths
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has recorded five million cases. This was after a little over a hundred thousand new cases were confirmed.
Data released by the World Health Oorganization pegged the figure at 5,103,350. More than 2.7 million people are still active cases.
Almost 400,000 people have died from the disease with 2,034,226 patients discharged after been declared free from the virus.
The United States of America remains the hardest hit country in the world with a third of the global cases. 1.6 million cases have been confirmed with almost 95,000 deaths.

The pandemic has now shifted to Latin America with Brazil recording high number of cases. Its current confirmed cases stands at 293,357 with almost 19,000 deaths.
European countries have started relaxing the strict lockdown they imposed on their citizens as the continent became the epicentre of the disease after China brought it under control.
The coronavirus disease which is officially called Covid-19 emerged in Wuhan, capital of China’s Hubei province late last year.

Its severity was downplayed by countries and the World Health Organisation. It was around late February that cases started springing in Europe.
