Prophet Babatunde Alfa, founder of Sotitobire Praising Chapel, has been sentenced to life imprisonment over the disappearance of a one year old child from his church.

Gold Kolawole, 1, was reported to have disappeared from the church in Akure on November 10 during a Sunday Service. Report have it that Kolawole was dropped off at the Children’s unit of the church but was no where to be found by his mother when service was over.

Prophet Babatunde was arrested and and presented to the Ondo State High Court by Justice Olusegun Odusola on Tuesday.

He was found guilty along with five other accomplice on two counts charge of Kidnapping and aiding and abetting to kidnap based on evidence presented to the court.

Other defendants jailed include Omodara Olayinka, Margaret Oyebola ,Grace Ogunjobi, Egunjobi Motunrayo and Esther Kayode. The Ondo branch of the Sotitobire Praising Chapel has also been burnt down by angry mob.

A court in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali has sentenced a former mayor to life imprisonment for his role in the country’s genocide which led to the deaths of 800,000 on a 100-day rampage.

Ladislas Ntaganzwa, the local mayor of Nyakizu in southern Rwanda was one of the most wanted culprits in the genocide which targeted the ethnic minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus in the east African country.

The former powerful politician was arrested in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo in 2015 after more than two decades on the run.

A year later he was extradited to his home country where he has been on trial for committing genocide against the Tutsis. This brought closure to international efforts to arrest him.

The American government even placed a $5-million bounty on his head. The United Nations accused him of organising “the massacre of thousands of Tutsis at various locations and sexual violence against women”.

A statement released by the prosecutor said the court “convicted him for genocide, extermination as crime against humanity and rape as crime against humanity and sentenced him to life imprisonment.”

The statement also added that the convict was however found not guilty of murder as crime against humanity and direct and public incitement to commit genocide.

The court found the former mayor of personally leading a series of massacres of Tutsi civilians, including an attack on a church where thousands had taken shelter from their blood-thirsty assailants.

Alexis Musonera, lawyer to the convict has stated his client’s decision to appeal against the guilty verdict. He has always maintained his innocence since the trial started some five years ago.

Ethnic tensions of several decades between Hutus who formed more than 80% of Rwanda and the Tutsis ended in a bloody outcome when the then-president, Juvenal Habyarimana was assassinated.

The Hutus blamed his death on Tutsi rebels and launched a genocide against that ethnic group. The killings ended when the Tutsi rebels led by current president, Paul Kagame seized the capital and over8threw the government.

Since then, the government has made several gains in apprehending the perpetrators of the crimes in the country. Early this month, one of the financiers of the Hutu militias was arrested in the French capital, Paris.

Felicien Kabuga was subsequently put before a court where he has been refused bail. He is fighting extradition to the Netherlands. The 87 year old former wealthy businessman has denied the charges.

Anthony Mamboleo Nyakeo, a Kenyan man in Texas has been jailed for life after being found guilty of raping a 74-year-old female patient in Texas in 2018. At the time of the offense, Anthony who was 53 years old was employed at the Woodridge Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Texas. The facility which is a nursing home for the elderly and disabled was where the victim was admitted and unfortunately assaulted by the caregiver accused. His judgement was swift – Life imprisonment.

The sexual assault was reported after other nurses on duty discovered blood stains in the underwear of the victim. They first alerted the family before reporting the matter to the police. As reported by the U.S. media, the victim’s nephew, Michael Templin was called by the facility and his permission was required to have his aunt examined to see if a sex offense had indeed occurred or not. The victim who could not talk was unable to give a personal statement to the police however witnesses claimed that she looked terrified. “Nurses said that her chin was trembling violently,” Templin said.

During the investigation, all male staff at the rehabilitation centre were made to go for a DNA test, and it is then that Nyakeo was identified as the main suspect. The Tarrant County District Attorney said Nyakeo’s DNA sample matched the sample recovered from the woman during her sexual assault examination. A defensive Nyakeo claimed that someone planted his DNA from a used condom in the body of the victim to frame him.

He claimed he was having an affair with a nurse at the facility and that after having sex, he discarded the condoms that they used in waste bins at the nursing facility. Nyakeo insisted that the perpetrator of the crime probability took his semen from the bin. His argument did not hold in court. The victim who suffered from dementia  died later in 2018 after the rape.
