Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo has delivered his new year message from the Obasanjo Library in Abeoukuta and has gone hard on Nigerians and their leaders.

The former leader of the West African nation said Nigerians should stop blaming God for their problems but rather their leaders.

He said that, prayers should go hand in hand with work otherwise nothing positive will be achieved.

“I like the motto of a school which says ‘work and pray.’ Some people say it should be ‘pray and work’, but it doesn’t matter to me what order I put it, but prayer must go with work and work must go with prayer.

And I believe we need to work hard in this country as we pray hard so that the coming year, the year 2021 will be a glorious year for us. But it will not happen unless we work to make it happen.

We do not have to blame God for our situation; we have to blame ourselves. Nigeria does not have to be poor. No Nigerian must go to bed hungry. That we have a situation like that is a choice by our leaders and followers alike. My prayer is that God will make the year 2021 a better year for all of us, but it will not happen without work.” his message reads.

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has made a wish to live as old as 100 years on earth.

Obasanjo, who is 83-years, made this statement at an event organized to mark the one year anniversary of the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabur Bakare, Jamolu II.

He said he wished to be around when the monarch celebrates its 20 years anniversary and if that comes through, he will be above 100 years.

“I will be here to celebrate your 20 years anniversary with you whether I am invited or not.

“By the time I also partake in celebrating your 20th anniversary with you, if God wishes, He can call me to come and meet Him in heaven because I know by that time, I will be above 100 or more .

“There are times that Kabiyesi don’t listen to words and there are times he does listen to words. If we are united, there is nothing we can’t do in Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole.”

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has charged on African youths to get rid of old leaders from government positions.

Delivering a keynote address at a virtual interactive session to mark this year’s International Youth Day, the former leader of the country charged the youth to get involved in active politics.

According to Obasanjo, old people are supposed to be forced out of the political space because the old leaders will not willingly give up on power. “Unless you squeeze out those who are in office and those who want to remain in office perpetually, some after the age of 80, unless you squeeze them out, they will not want to be out.”

He noted that, the youth should join political parties that are making conscious efforts to empower them. “The type of change I am talking about, that I believe we can all embark upon is to subscribe to the constitution of political parties in favour of youths. Or if you like it you call it affirmative action in favour of youths.”

He concluded by giving a clue to the youth on how to identify the political parties with the best plan for the youth.

He added: “For instance, if you say, in the constitution of a political party, not less than 50 per cent of those who hold executive office within the party will be less than 40 years. “You can even go beyond that and say that people who will be put up for election, not less than 50 per cent of them will be less than 40 years of age. That’s affirmative action. That’s positive discrimination in favour of youths.”

Nigerians were in the state of shock last night as the house of former President of the federal sate, Olusegun Obasanjo’s mansion situated at the Ita-Eko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital has been gutted by fire.

Fortunately no life was loss as a result of the outbreak. Per the police of Abiokota’s reports indicated that, the fire broke out in the house around 10 Pm on last night.

The police is yet to come out with the actual cause of the outbreak as they keep on with their investigations but per some eyewitnesses, the fire outbreak was caused by a power surge.

The wife of the deceased Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe was pictured with teary eyes when the ex-president of Nigeria, Olusegun  Obasanjo went consoling her.

Robert Mugabe died last Friday in a hospital in Singapore after a long illness. His body was flown back to his country for his final funeral rites which were supposed to have taken place today in Zimbabwe.

According to the Zimbabwean President in a statement, Mugabe will be buried at the National heroes monument but the family including the widow are not in favor of the funeral arrangements.

Reports coming in state that, the burial of the ex-president will be delayed for another 30 days as the family is against his burial place. The family has said that they want their relatives buried in his village home with the widow, Grace Mugabe insisting on a private burial place.

The new arrangement now is for him to be buried in a special site in the National heroes monument, a spokesperson of the family said. This special site is to be built within 30 days.

“The construction will take about 30 days to complete,” Leo Mugabe said. “The burial will not take place until it is finished.” He said Mugabe’s body would be preserved until then.

A picture of the National Sports Stadium where his funeral was to be held showed a half-filled stadium as most people are angry about the way he treated his people during the latter end of his reign and claimed that he become a tyrant to his own people.
