Nigerian female artiste, Tiwa Savage has revealed that during her entry into the music industry some years ago, she faced some rejections from industry bigwigs at the time.

According to her, she contacted musician turned politician, Banky Wellington popularly known as Banky W to sign her onto his Empire Mates Entertainment but Banky turned her down.

She added that, she was rejected by Don Jazzy too when the Mavins Records was then known as Mo Hits.

She spoke to Ebuka Obi-Uchendu in an exclusive interview. Below are her words.

Tiwa Savage said: “At the time when I just got back to Nigeria, I approached Banky W to sign me into his music label, but he said No.

“I guess because he was about to work with Niniola at the time. I also went to Mohits at that time, and they were working with Muna, so they turned me down and I went back to LA.

“But I later got back to Nigeria and begged Don Jazzy to sign me into Mavin records and he did.

“I’m sure EME, other records can see me now.”

Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage has revealed in an interview with Obi Uchendu that she nearly committed suicide on two different occasions due to some racial abuses she suffered.

The mother of one recounted that, she was taken to London at age 10 by her mother. She continued that her Nigerian accent made her a subject of ridicule among her white peers in school.

She also added that, her food, accent and even her appearance were mocked on different occasions. This, according to her, made her to attempt suicide on two different occasions.

She said: “I was teased so bad. They used to call me ‘African girl’, ‘Foo foo’, ‘Your food smells’ and so on. It was terrible. It was so bad that I literally tried to kill myself two times. I was really depressed.”

Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage has taken to twitter to explain why members of the Nigerian police force should join the youth in the ongoing protest across the various States in Nigeria.

The singer noted that, it would inure to the benefit of the members of the police force if they join the youth in the protest.

She explained that, she has spoken with some police officers in confidentiality and discussed with them how low they’re paid and sometimes,they wait for months without being paid, and how the protest can help change the narrative for them.

She adds that, the police and their families live in buildings that are not befitting of the kind of work they do for the State whiles the politicians are paid billions to go and sleep at the senate. She encouraged the police officers to see the bigger picture.

In a series of tweets on social media, the mother of one said the announcement that SARS has been scrapped is the beginning of many things to come and so the youth must not relent.

She tweeted: “I DO NOT, I repeat I DO NOT support POLICE BRUTALITY but I said I would share some thought provoking things because there is a bigger picture here. I think the police force should join us in the fight. I’ve seen pictures of the barracks they live in with their families.

“I’ve spoken to a few in confidentiality about how low they are paid and how they go months without pay but are handed guns to protect Nigerians. While our leaders in the words of @n6oflife are paid billions to show up at the senate to fall asleep. Who are the real murderers here.

“They said they have ended Sars hmmm NIGERIANS THIS IS NOT THE END. IT IS JUST THE BEGINNING”
