The story of Hallowed Olaoluwa is an inspiration to all aspiring Nigerian and African academicians.

The 30 year old University of Lagos (UNILAG) alumnus is one of Africa’s youngest doctors of mathematics and a professor.

He is said to have acquired his bachelor degree at the age of 14, double bachelor’s degree at 17, before he went ahead to bag two masters degrees in mathematics and physics at 19, according to a LinkedIn post by Adebayo Ilupeju.

Born on September 27, 1989, it should be noted that he got two masters as a teenager, making his a very special case.

With his insatiable desire to attain academic laurels, Olaoluwa came back to his motherland, Nigeria, in 2011 and attained his PhD in mathematics within the space of three years at UNILAG, making him the youngest student with a doctorate degree in Africa in the field at the age of 24.

You’re Not As Innocent As You Claim – Lawyer Tells ‘Gang Rape’ Victim

The trial of the five Unilag student alleged to have gang-raped a fellow student, resumed on Tuesday, with Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mrs Abimbola Akeredolu, telling an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court that the victim is not as innocent as she claimed.

According to TheNation, Akeredole who is the defense counsel to Chuka Chukwu, 19, one of the five accused students insisted that the girl, then 17, was not a naive person as she portrayed herself to the court.

Other defendants are Moboluwaji Omowole, 19, Peace Nwankama, 19, James Aguedu, 20 and Josephine Osemeka, 20.

To prove her assertion, the defense counsel asked if she has ever been to Oceanwaves and Eclipse nightclubs, the survivor responded that she sang at the 2019 Felabration and performed at the event of the musician Ycee in August 2019.

She said that she had been an entertainer half of her life and that she had not been to the two Nightclubs. But the senior lawyer disagreed with her and said that in 2017, the survivor launched a music track at a time she claimed she was 17, naIve and innocent.

To further prove her assertions, Akeredolu proceeded to read aloud some of the lyrics of the song: “I feel so lonely, so paralysed, got no guy to call my own, so when I saw the look in your eyes, I couldn’t help to fantasize.

I feel somebody coming home, meaningful love with depth and potential is what I need all the time. Just want you to be mine, so grab on my waist, let’s bust up the place. Anything that you do is fine, that’s why there is no need to be shy…”

After reading the lyrics, Akeredolu said that they were not written by a naive person. She thereafter presented to the complainant, five photographs — in which the complainant was partially clad — to identify. After the complainant identified herself, the photographs were admitted by the court for identification purposes.

Female Student Allegedly Transforms Into a Mermaid Inside a Hostel At UNILAG – VIDEOS

Residents in and around Fagunwa Hall, a female hostel in the University of Lagos, had a sleepless night yesterday, because they claimed one of the residents was an actual mermaid. This led to almost all the hostel residents trooping out to ‘save their lives’.

According to reports shared by some students of UNILAG, the alleged mermaid known as Olamide was said to have had misunderstanding with another student identified as Blessing who she was accomodating in her room. Olamide claimed Blessing stole her necklace and threatened to deal with Blessing with powers from the ”Marine Spirits.”

Narrating what took place, one unknown writer explained;

“A girl named Blessing who is being squatted by Olamide in Fagunwa hall had a misunderstanding with her. The misunderstanding was caused by a missing wristwatch. Upon losing her necklace, Olamide suspected Blessing and immediately sent her packing from the room and also wrote long notes stating and threatening her not to ever mess with the Marine spirits frankly stating that she is one of them.“

Furthermore, her roommates disclosed that Olamide only bathed in the morning, her bed is soaked anytime she wakes up from a nap, she wakes up to soak her legs in water, and prays to a necklace every morning.

The anonymous writer continued;

“These statements provoked her roommates who dragged her outside while still emphatically insisting that she’s a mermaid.

These frustrations caused her (mammy water) to reveal that the missing necklace (the one that causes fight) makes her turn into a fish. After these confessions, the Able-bodied Alpha base were then invited into the hostel to lead her out.”

#SexForGrades: I’ve Been Exonerated – UNILAG Professor

Olusegun Awonusi, a professor of English and former vice chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, accused of “habitual sexual harassment” by a student has said the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has exonerated him.

In May 2018, Joy Nwanna, a student of the institution, released semi-nude photos of the lecturer through Linda Ikeji’s blog saying the lecturer “was used to molesting students and that she was reaching out to the public to curb his excesses.”

The action triggered anger and disgust from many Nigerians including the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

On May 31, 2018, UNILAG, in a statement by its spokesperson, Taiwo Oloyede vowed to “thoroughly investigate the allegation”.

It then called for submission of memoranda by members of the public which lasted for a month.

The panel was able to establish that the student involved is Joy Nwana, who graduated from the Department of English in the 2015/2016 academic session but said: “claims made by Ms Nwana and Linda Ikeji Blog could not be substantiated, because of their repeated absence at the panel’s enquiry sessions.”

The institution said the attempt to get the duo to make representations at “the sessions did not yield the desired results.”

However, it promised that the university would continue with its investigations.

Following the suspension of an associate professor, Boniface Igbeneghu; former sub-dean of Faculty of Art and head pastor of a local branch of the Foursquare Gospel Church after he was caught in a BBC video sexually harassing an ‘admission seeker’, Mr Awonusi has sopken.

The professor said that the panel raised by UNILAG to probe him did not find him guilty of the allegations leveled against him.

“Let me simply say this… The panel submitted their report and the university held two press conferences on the findings of the panel and the thing has ended that way. I have done what I’m expected to do.”

Asked if he is still a staff of UNILAG, he said: “Precisely. What has to be done has been done. I have attended interviews and authorities that should know are informed.”

Sex-for-mark practice is a common problem in Nigerian institutions, which over the years may had been encouraged by Nigerian universities due to their failure to appropriately sanction erring lecturers.

#SexForGrades: Secret Location Of ‘Cold Room’ At UNILAG Where Lecturers ‘Sexually Harass’ Students Found And Shut Down

The University of Lagos has announced the shut down of the ‘Cold Room’, where lecturers allegedly sexually harass students.

This was disclosed by Taiwo Oloyede, the Principal Assistant Registrar (Communication Unit) of the university.

The ‘Cold Room’ was mentioned by a lecturer of the school, Boniface Igbeneghu, who was caught on video sexually harassing an undercover journalist who posed as an admission seeker.

Mr Igbeneghu, in the BBC undercover documentary, described the secret place where lecturers meet to “touch students breast” at the staff club of the university.

“They call the place cold room,” he said. He then explained that female students must pay to have good grades.

“The so called ‘Cold Room’ is a Functions Room that may have been abused because this is a deviation from the purpose for which it was created (meetings, seminars, events, etc)” the university spokesperson said.

Mr Oloyede also confirmed an earlier report that Mr Igbeneghu had been suspended.

Meanwhile, a Ghanaian lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo who was also implicated in the BBC documentary has threatened to sue the BBC over the Sex For Grade documentary.
