Former Ivorian International Didier Drogba is running for president of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), according to local media report.

The legendary former Chelsea player reportedly filed his nomination for the elections which is expected to take place in December this year.

Didier Drogba will face stiff competition from others including a former colleague on the field – now turned politician, Bonaventure Kalou – currently running terms as mayor of Vavoua municipality.

Also, he will face off with the incumbent president Augustin Sidy Diallo who has been in at the helms of affairs since 2011. Other candidates will be known in the coming weeks.

The retired footballer is said to have expressed his ambitions of leading the football federation in his home country for some time now.

“It’s something that interests me: I want to get more involved. I think more and more about it. I know Ivorian football, I have played in selection for years and I invested in Ivorian football lately.

“I have not made my decision yet, but, if all conditions are met, why not?” he said in an interview on French broadcaster, RFI.
