Elders And Youths Fight Over Goat Presented As Bride Price For A Traditional Marriage-Video

In our part of the world, before a woman is given out for marriage, the suitor is to provide a bride price to her family as a form of appreciation to the ladies family for all the job done in raising her. The bride price also makes society recognize and authenticate the marriage.

In Nigeria, items presented include cloth, shoes, money, tubers of yam, drinks, sometimes goat. These items are shared amongst the ladies parents, uncles, aunts, siblings, elders, etc.

In Anambra Ogbonike State Nigeria, who keeps the goat presented by an inlaw during a traditional marriage became a problem as the elders and the youths are seen pulling and fighting over the goat.

A video posted on instablog9ja shows both elders and youths seriously pulling the live goat and hitting it in the process, sad it isn’t?

My confusion, however, is why the youths want to have a share of the goat? Isn’t it supposed to be shared among the elders?
