On Monday the 19th of August, Senator Isaac Mwaura’s wife Nelius Mukami found herself on the wrong side of the law. She was arrested by traffic police and charged with two traffic offenses. Things weren’t looking up for her until her knight in shining armor Senator Mwaura rushed to the Milimani Law Courts on that Monday afternoon and caused a scene before finally bailing her out of jail.

Based on her charge sheet, Mukami was arrested because of two common traffic violations; driving with an expired insurance cover and without a valid driving licence. On the charge sheet it read “On Monday, August 19 Nelius Mukami was driving a motor vehicle, Toyota Prado, on a public road namely, Globe roundabout, without insurance against third party risk.”

Mukami pleaded guilty of all charges upon appearing before Electer Rianyi, the Milimani Traffic Court magistrate. She claimed to simply have forgotten her licence at home. For this offense, she was ordered to either pay a fine of Sh. 1000 or spend a month in jail. For the expired license offense however, she was charged with a Sh.20,000 fine, failure of which to pay would lead to a 4 month jail term. All her fines were paid by the Senator and she was released. Love wins people. For better or for worse.
