Egesa Accident Kills 5 On The Spot – Bomet Police Blame Rains

In a tragic road accident in Egesa on Tuesday morning, at least five people died on the spot when the matatu they were travelling in encountered difficulties, lost control and rolled a couple of times before finally plunging into a ditch.

The tragic accident which took place in Longisa town, Bomet county occurred in an area that has been in the past identified by authorities as a black spot. Thanks to a witness going by Job Nyangena, it was discovered that the matatu lost control and as the driver struggled to maintain control over the 14 seater, it ended up rolling several times killing five on the spot. Passers by managed to resuscitate a number of injured and unconscious passengers before they were rushed to the nearby hospital in Longisa. So far, 13 people have been admitted with injuries.


Egesa Shuttles usually operate from Kisii to Nairobi. The accident took place around an area known to be an accident prone zone in Bomet. The chief of police Francis Ng’ang’a regretted the accident and urged drivers to be cautious on the roads in a bid to avoid deaths during this rainy season. This accident comes in the wake of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Matiangi’s efforts of introducing digital speedometers to detect reckless drivers.
