Keroche Breweries’ owners Tabitha Karanja and Joseph Karanja were arrested on Thursday morning by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at their company in Naivasha over tax evasion charges amounting to Sh. 14 billion. Following their arrest, their beautiful and successful heiress and CEO to Nero Company Anerlisa Muigai created the hash tag #IstandwithKeroche to protest what she claims is unlawful charges against her parents company.

The arrests was ordered by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji after the couple was accused of failing to pay taxes from 2015, The couple who looked unfazed denied the allegations and were whisked away in cars to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road in Nairobi. Minutes before the arrest that Thursday, Anerlisa Muigai penned a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to intervene following the arrest of her parents.

Through a post shared on her Facebook and Instagram pages, Anerlisa requested the Head of State to protect local entrepreneurs who face many challenges in the country. “Dear President (Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta), I am writing in regards to our local entrepreneurs.“I am humbly requesting you to intervene and help/protect us all in businesses. We chose you as our President. Everyday our local entrepreneurs are being fought. We trust and believe that you will do something about it. Thank You.”she wrote.

#IstandwithKeroche made the rounds on Twitter and from many responses, Anerlisa seems to have garnered massive support from the country. Even her soon to be husband Kenyan singer Ben Pol showed his support via her Instagram and urged his followers to stand beside his woman Anerlisa. As of now, we can only wait to see the president’s response or lack thereof.
