Research Reveals That Bearded Men Carry More Germs Than Dogs

It appears some ladies will soon stop crushing on bearded guys, as a new research suggests that bearded men have more germs than a dog’s fur. Yikes!

Researchers at the Hirslanden Clinic close by Zurich, Switzerland, were curious to determine whether evaluating humans and dogs in the same MRI scanner would be hygienic. They did so by comparing the bacterial load in colony-forming units (CFU) of human-pathogenic microorganisms in specimens taken from 18 bearded men and 30 hairy dogs.

Turns out all the bearded folks showed high microbial counts, compared with just 23 out of 30 dogs. BBC disclosed that seven of the men had so much beard bacteria that they were actually at risk of getting sick.

The jointly used scanner between the men and dogs further had significantly lower bacteria counts than the scanners used by only humans.

Study author Andreas Gutzeit therefore told the BBC, “On the basis of these findings, dogs can be considered as clean, compared with bearded men.”
