Only in Kenya: Woman Expected to Give Birth to Twins Delivers Triplets

A mixture of shock and joy erupted at Lugulu Mission hospital after a 22-year-old woman expecting twins gave birth to triplets. The woman identified as Shakira Nanjala from Muji village, Webuye West constituency, Bungoma county became the youngest woman in the county to be blessed with triplets.

The young mum delivered three babies, two boys and one girl through caesarian section. Speaking while on her hospital bed on Monday, Nanjala stated that several prenatal scans had revealed that she was carrying twins. However, when she visited the hospital for delivery on September 22, a new scan showed that she was heavy with triplets. The trio Weighed the normal weight of 2.1 kg, 2.3 kg and 2.8 kg.

The triplets’ grandmother appealed to well-wishers to help them bring up the children as she does not have a stable source of income and had struggled to budget for the twins who turned out to be triplets. “My daughter is not married and got pregnant while still at home, am pleading for help from well wishers to raise my grandchildren,” she said
