Teargas, Tears and Runaway Students – This Was The Scene at Kenyatta University When a Peaceful Demonstration Turned Into a Crazy Strike (Video)
Students at Kenyatta University planned a ‘peaceful’ demonstration yesterday which quickly turned chaotic. Protesting students ended up running away as teargas rained down on them.
Students at Kenyatta University planned a ‘peaceful’ demonstration yesterday which quickly turned chaotic. Protesting students ended up running away as teargas rained down on them.
The students disrupted learning activities at the institution and the flow of traffic along Thika Superhighway. Police were forced to intervene and break the strike apart.
The drama started yesterday at 10am when Kenyatta University Students Association (Kusa) president Joshua Ayika mobilized students at the university’s shopping center.

Joshua addressed the students over a range of complaints against the administration. He then led them in disrupting classes which were in progress.
When the authorities showed up, the students engaged the police in running battles within the school. Many of sthe students ran out of the school, blocking the busy Thika Superhighway.
The police on site responded with teargas to disperse the angry students. Teargas seemed to be the only way restore calm at the institution and the adjacent areas.
The striking students fortunately didn’t destroy school property. However, there is tension within the school as the administration wonders what might happen next if the students’ complains are not met.
