Reduce The Price Of Data For Ghanaians – Mahama Tells Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama has petitioned the Nana Akufo-Addo and Telcos to reduce the cost of Internet Charges for Ghanaians.

The NDC flagbearer raised concerns that students under lockdown are unable to access study materials online because of exorbitant data charges.

“This has drastically increased their expenditure on internet usage to the extent to the extent that some can no longer cope. Indeed, there are reports of several students being unable to complete online lectures because their data run out. Several people are also working from home. This value can be applied to cushion consumers during this three-month period,” he said.

“Furthermore, the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) should leverage its robust broadband infrastructure…to meet the increased demand for wireless and fixed broadband in these COVID-19 times,” he said these after donating 20,000 food items to the needy to aid them to cope with the COVID-19 lockdown.

Mahama also suggested government cushion telecommunication companies with a free six months extension of their licenses to encourage them reduce the cost of data in the country.

Ghanaians are enjoying free water and 50% reducing on electricity bills for three months to cushion them during this COVID-19 pandemic.
