Twene Jonas Opens Fire on Captain Smart, Kofi Oduro for Failure to Stand Up Against ‘d-levy’

U.S.-based Ghanaian political commentator Twene Jonas attacked media personality Captain Smart and man of God Kofi Oduro over their failure to criticise the new energy sector levy, commonly known as the dumsor (d) levy.

In a video shared on his social media handles, Jonas slammed the two fiery, loudmouthed personalities as selfish people only concerned about their welfare and not the well-being of the Ghanaian people.

Jonas recalled that the two attacked the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by Nana Akufo-Addo when it implemented the electronic levy, widely known as e-levy, which placed a 1.5% tax on all mobile money and phone banking transactions.

He wondered why they’ve now remained mute on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government placing a similar tax on fuel, a Ghs 1 tax on every litre of fuel purchased in the country.

Jonas angrily slammed the two personalities as selfish and self-centred.

“Captain Smart, you’re a selfish man. Why can’t you speak up? When Akufo-Addo implemented the e-levy, you attacked and insulted him. John Mahama brought the d-levy, and you’re quiet. God will punish you. You’re led by your stomach. Same goes for Pastor Oduro. You’ve taken money and now cannot speak the truth,” he ranted in his video

Captain Smart and Kofi Oduro were two of the NPP government’s biggest critics.

The e-levy, an unpopular tax that Ghanaians kicked against, was repealed by the NDC following their takeover of the government after the 2024 elections.

Despite a promise to stay away from the NPP’s taxation policy, the NDC introduced its new tax on fuel in Parliament this week.

Jonas’ attack comes as Ghanaians debate the necessity of the new tax, which the government argues is needed to solve the never-ending power crisis plaguing the country.

Twene Jonas made a name for himself within the past few years for his attacks on the NPP government during their time in office.

His attacks have continued despite the change in government.
