A young woman is in the grips of the police after she killed her one and a half year baby girl in her Lagos apartment.

Adisa Funmilola committed the dastard act by drowning the baby in a bucket of water while bathing her.

She then proceeded to make a police report. During interrogation, she attributed frustration as the reason for killing her baby.

The suspect blamed her inability to continue her education on childbirth thus hated the baby very much.

Adisa Funmilola explained she got pregnant and her boyfriend rejected responsibility and demanded she aborted the pregnancy.

She said she was later offered admission into the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, to study Law,  but had to defer the admission because of the baby.

This situation coupled with her financial constraints drove her to commit such a heinous crime.

Her elder sister whom she stays with has alluded to a mental breakdown on the part of her sister. She thus pleaded for mercy as she was not in the right frame of mind.

After carrying out over 28 abortions for him, a Nigerian lady has threatened to run a man identified as Kunle mad for refusing to marry her.

Sounds like a movie right? Well the said lady shared her sad story on the page of a social media influencer hoping to be consoled or advised on the decision she has taken.

She revealed the man has been a childhood friend and they have been in a relationship for long adding that she refused many proposals because she was in love with the man.

According to her, Kunle avoided talks about marriage saying he is not ready to cater for her and kids, resulting in her aborting many pregnancies.

In her story, she disclosed that Kunle refused to show up after they both fixed a date to settle down. He turned off any contact to him and when he was finally reached, Kunle said his parents do not consent to him marrying a lady older than him.

The lady has since vowed to make Kunle go mad for all the pain he has put her through.

A medical doctor in South Korea has performed an abortion on the wrong patient after there was a mix-up in the medical charts of patients at the clinic.

According to reports, the police has arrested the gynecologist and nurse, who aborted the six-weeks pregnancy on charges of professional negligence for failing to check the patient’s information before the procedure.

The police said that the victim had been prescribed nutritional supplements on August 7.

It was reported that when she entered the delivery room — where the hospital apparently also gave injections and conducted surgeries — neither the nurse nor the doctor checked the patient’s identity.

Confusing her for the patient on the charts they were looking at, the nurse injected the patient with anaesthesia after which the doctor performed the abortion.

The woman returned to the hospital the next day after experiencing bloody discharge and was told that the fetus had been aborted.

The Central Region Public Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has expressed worry about reports of adolescents resorting to weedicides to abort pregnancies.

The Regional Director, Public Health, Dr Kwabena Sarfo, said that was worrying and an indication that comprehensive sexual education had to be intensified to reach all, particularly, the adolescents.

“I have had reports of pregnant adolescents adopting all manner of methods to abort pregnancies. One of such, which is new for us, is the use of weedicides. Some pregnant adolescents are drinking weedicides to abort pregnancies,” he stated.

He said it was obvious that many of them were sexually active but were not ready for the pregnancies.

Dr Sarfo said using weedicides to abort pregnancies would kill many if it was not stopped through education.

He stated that public health education was everyone’s business, adding that it was essential that all stakeholders came on board to support education.

“Many people are contracting sexually transmitted diseases, getting unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions and it is important that we all step up our game to get family planning services to as many people as possible,” he indicated.

A public health nurse at the Central Regional Hospital, Mrs Beatrice Essilfie, urged individuals to refer any complicated case to the nearest health facility.    

An Assistant Director at the Central Regional Coordinating Council and UNFPA Focal Person, Mr David Allan Paintsil, said many deaths could be avoided if people had access to the right information.
