Africa’s share of the coronavirus cases has crossed the 100,000 tally. This comes more than three months since the continent’s first case was reported in Egypt.

The current number of confirmed cases is 100,399 with the death toll also pegging at 3,098. The total number of recoveries is almost 40,000. Close to 58,000 people are still active cases.

South Africa remains the hardest hit country on the continent with 20,125 cases and 397 deaths. It is followed by Egypt with almost 16.000 cases. Algeria, Morocco and Nigeria follows in that order with all of them recording more than 7,000 cases.

Mauritius is the first African country to recover from the global pandemic. It had recorded 332 cases in total. Ten of these cases lost their lives with the remaining 322 been discharged.

Liberian President, H.E George Weah, has ordered for the partial reopening of all religious centers across the country although there is a constant rise in Coronavirus cases.

He said, mosques will open for prayers beginning May 15 and Churches will follow suit from May 17.

Liberia has by far recorded 199 positive cases of COVID-19 with 20 deaths, according to the country’s authorities.

The President however added that these religious centers will only be allowed to function if its congregation will adhere to the social distancing policy laid down by government.

In a statement signed by the President, lockdown in the country’s capital, Monrovia, has been extended for two more weeks.

Closure of non-essential businesses, ban on all movements between the country’s states and the Stay-at-home for Monrovia still stands, a portion of the statement read.

Comoros has confirmed its first case of the coronavirus disease. The east African island nation was one of the only few nations without any case in the pandemic.

President Azali Assoumani explained the 50 year-old patient is a dual national of Comoros and France. He also confirmed contact tracing has been initiated to track down the disease spread.

This development leaves Lesotho as the only African country to have no recorded case of the coronavirus disease. The continent has recorded a total of 37,391 case with about a third recovery rate. The death toll currently stands at 1,598.

Africa remains the continent less hit by the Covid-19 pandemic

As the death toll of coronavirus cases in Ghana still hangs at five, the number has increased to 205 as an additional case is set to have been recorded in the Upper East Region of the country.

Per the Ghana Health Service Directorate reports as gathered by AfriacCelebrities.Com, this particular case has no travel history nor has come into contact with any patient but tested positive for the deadly virus
