The Prime Minister of Ivory Coast, Amadou Gon Coulibaly has has been confirmed dead by the secretary-general in the Presidency.

His death, comes barely a week after returning from a medical leave and few months to the country’s presidential election. He was 61-years.

According to reports from Bloomberg, Coulibaly died on Wednesday July 8 after attending a cabinet meeting. The secretary-general in the presidency, Patrick Achi, said on television.

This leaves his political party only four months to nominate a competent successor before the presidential election in October.

Amadou Gon Coulibaly, before his death was selected by the President of Ivory Coast Alassane Ouattara back in March 2020 to succeed him.

He once served as Minister for Agriculture from 2002 to 2010 and secretary-general of the presidency from 2011 to 2017 before assuming office as the Prime Minister in 2017.

Controversial Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has shared his point of view as to what led to the defeat of the 40 incumbent MPs who were members of parliament.

The lawmaker posited that the MPs lost because they have refused to establish rapport with the foot soldiers.

According to Ken Agyapong these MPs refused to have a relationship with the ordinary supporters of the party and failed to help them in their difficult situations.

He further shared that the Members of Parliament failed to build a strong relationship with the party supporters.

In his owns words he said:

“Sometimes when they make the demands and I don’t have money, I talk to them for them to understand. So as an MP if you want to be loved you need to be open and build a good relationship with the grass root.”

With election 2020 a few months away, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has launched an electronic payment platform aimed at fundraising towards their campaign.

The announcement of the platform was made by the flag bearer John Dramani Mahama earlier today. He mentioned that the launch begins a process that will allow for broad participation in the financing of the NDC and its activities.

He said the platform will allow not only registered members of the NDC but all those who want to participate and contribute to the funding of the NDC’s campaign and also that the party believes the new electronic payment platform will bring to an end the many issues characterized by the financing of political campaigns in Ghana.

He further mentioned the platform shows the NDC’s openness and accountability in the ways the finances of the party with regards to its campaign will be handled and that detailed financial reports of all persons who have contributed, how the funds will be used will be rendered to the Functional Executive Committee and National Executive Committee of the NDC regularly.

He added persons who may want to be kept anonymous because of the vengeful nature of the ruling government will be kept out of the public and that the fundraising activity will strictly be in compliance with the Political Parties Act 547 and Electoral Commission Act 655.
