The only difference is one stands as an ex military ruler and founder of a political party and the other is a 58 year old American teacher and a fashion model who’s stylish pictures earned him the title #MeStealYourGrandma.

Former President of Ghana, H.E Flt. Lt. JJ Rawlings celebrated his 73rd birthday yesterday June 22 and to mark the day many recalls all the great feat he has accomplished for the country.

As part of activities to mark the day, the former President joined his wife and beautiful daughters in a rather simple celebration with some family photos taken.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also extended a spirit-filled birthday message to Former President in a tweet that called for longevity for the 73 year old man.

“I wish the former President of the Republic, H.E Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings a happy 73rd birthday. May Allah preserve him and grant him good health to continue to help in nation-building,” he tweeted.

Rawlings was Ghana’s first President in the Fourth Republic, serving from the year 1993 to 2001.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has exhibited a high degree of political and social maturity as he feeds over 20,000 households with rich meals and drinks amid lockdown.

This nice gesture was made today, Tuesday, 14 April 2020 as he condemns the mode of distribution of food to poor Ghanaians in the locked-down areas.

According to the former gentleman of the land, the overcrowding situation at the centres for a food distribution is relatively worrying as it may result in a widespread of the global pandemic in the country.

In a press briefing he said:

He told the press: “Yesterday [Monday], I received a mail from a young teacher in Adentan, who lamented that she is suffering and starving because her school has closed down and her employers have still not paid them for the months of February and March”.

“In many such cases, we had tried to lend support, as far as our means would allow. This is why I have welcomed the utilisation of the Stabilisation Fund to alleviate some of the unintended consequences of the lockdown occasioned by this pandemic.

“This includes the distribution of food to deprived communities.

“Reports from the field are a worry, both in terms of the quality of the hot meals served and the mode of the distribution of the food.

“The overcrowding and general scramble that characterise this exercise defeats the protocol of social distancing and can help accelerate the spread of the virus.”
