Nigerian comedian, Oluwakaponeski has expressed his worry about the high rate of scam activities among Nigerian youth in the United States.

Nigeria is notoriously known for the highest rate of the social vice in different parts of the world. Hushpuppi readily comes to mind as the latest to be in police grips for engaging in fraud.

The comedian particularly mentioned that most of those engaging in fraud activities in America are males and if care is not taken a lot of the youth will be in prison.

He explained further that, he has being receiving bad news about guys who are behind bars for committing fraud in the US.

He took to twitter to make his observation known. Below are his tweets.

“Man we losing a lot Nigerian males to fraud both home and abroad. In the next five years the population of Nigerian men in jail in America will be crazy. Stop if you can before it’s too late.

I place a call to a friend and next thing. “Yo remember so so guy???!” He is in Jail o. Like talented and goood guys too. The number is Insane mow. We don’t need 70% of Nigerian men in jail in America. Step on the brake my Guy.

Don’t put yourself at risk over people who won’t care about you when you are behind those walls. A word is enough for the wise. I come in peace like Frank Donga

All these girls and greed you put yourself at risk and do these things for. When they arrest you. You know how that stories go.

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke is on the chopping board of many Nigerians including some celebrities over her comment about internet fraudsters becoming role models in the country.

The minister in her speech on Friday said Nigerian youths are going astray because the aspire to be like the Yahoo Yahoo boys on the streets.

Her statement was seen as hypocritical by many considering the fact that she has been at the center of many alleged frauds while she was in office.

ON air personality Toolz and Nigerian Musician Falz are latest to add their voice to the many who are not in support of the Minister’s utterance.

Tools wrote on her twitter handle;

”See normally I would laugh but this is so ridiculous. This lady must have lost her damn mind to come online and spew this nonsense. How are you different from a fraudster ma? She actually has no shame, which is sadly common for a lot of our (present and past) politicians.
No shame at all! Crazy woman.

Falz also shared a photo of the former minister and questioned who is a bigger fraud than she was.

37-year-old Gbese Peter has been arrested by the Ogun State police for allegedly defrauding a couple, Mr and Mrs Bamigboye Alao of 5 Million Naira.

Gbese Peter, according to reports, pretended to be a herbalist who can help the couple overcome their spiritual problems and shield their children from untimely death.

PRO for the police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed that the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Sabo Police Station by Mrs Bamigboye.

The suspect, Gbese, confessed upon investigation that he collected money from the couple under false pretense.

He also claimed that he only duped them of 3.5 million and not 5 million as the woman claimed. The suspect added that he used the money to build a house for himself.

Proper investigation has began after the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department.

Alleged Nigerian scammer, Olalekan Ponle alias Mr. Woodberry has maintained that he is not guilty to any charge of fraud levelled against him after he was arraigned before Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cummings of the United States District Court in Illinois.

Though the fraud charges against Mr. Woodberry has been thrown out as we reported a few days ago, the grand jury’s indictment which summed his offences into eight counts charge is still active.

Appearing before the court on July 25, Ponle confirmed the receipt of the indictment and entered a plea of not guilty to each count.

A document we chanced on by the Premium Times read;

“Defendant appears in response to his arrest on 7/2/20. Attorney, Michael Nash, appears on behalf of the defendant. Defendant informed of the charges against him as well as of the possible sentence fine if convicted of those charges.”

“Arraignment proceedings held, Defendant acknowledges receipt of the Indictment, waives formal reading, and enters a plea of not guilty to each count in which he is named.”

Mr. Woodberry who will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service will know his fate whether the case will go to trial in a status hearing on August 8.

A Nigerian politician has been handed a 31 year jail term after he was found guilty of fraud in a five year trial.

Samuel Bulus Adamu, the former chairman of Shongom Local Government Area in Gombe State was convicted on a seven-count charge bordering on fraud, cheating and money laundering to the tune of N97, 640, 000 ($250,000)

The trial began in March 2015 after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Gombe zonal office arrested him for fraud.

Justice N. I. Afolabi of Federal High Court Gombe heard statements from four prosecution witnesses before making his judgement.

He found him guilty of all seven charges brought against him by the EFCC. The accused was handed five years on the first three counts, with the fourth count getting seven years. The last three counts bagged him three years each.

However his sentences are to run concurrently meaning he spends only seven years in jail before he becomes a free man.
