The anti-human traffic agency of Edo State, Nigeria has arrested a middle-aged woman who lured three sisters into prostitution.

Vivian Francis, a 28-year-old lady had transported her own three young siblings from her native Cross River State to Benin city, capital of Edo State in southern Nigeria.

She succeeded in convincing them after she promised them she will put them in high paying jobs if they followed her to Edo State.

She confessed to the crime of recruiting the young girls who were aged 15, 17 and 18, into prostitution under false pretence.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charges when she appeared before a state high court presided by Justice Isoken Erameh.

She was sentenced to a year imprisonment and given an option of N125,000 fine to avoid the jail term a first time offender.

In a statement to the press, the convict showed remorse for her evil actions and thereby advised other would-be traffickers to change their minds.

“I have made a mistake by bringing my sisters to Benin; I did not know that it was going to end up this way. I just felt that they should keep themselves busy in Benin that was why I fixed them up in that line. When they came to Benin, they realised that I was into prostitution and I told them to do the same. I pray that others will not make the kind of mistake I made”

For months, the court heard behind-closed-door evidence from teenagers aged between 13 and 14 years, accusing the Nigerian, Ediozi of luring little girls off the streets and recruiting them into a brothel which he owned. Once in the brothel, they were forced to smoke crack, which Ediozi manufactured himself.

Once high on the drug, he would rape them by way of initiation into the sex trade “to teach them the tools”. After a while, the girls became addicted to the crack he forced them to smoke and would do whatever he asked in exchange for the drug. That’s how he controlled them.

The girls hardly got anything to eat, since they were paid for their prostitution with drugs and were under lock and key at all times while Ediozi’s boys were out searching for “customers”. This went on for over a year till one of the girls was rescued and two other victims escaped after police raided the premises following a tip-off.

There was evidence to prove that some police had been given bribes in order to leave him to operate. Ediozi was convicted of 24 of the 29 charges that were brought against him.
