Ace Nigerian actor Yemi Solade has stated that the movie industry has lost its former glory and has been taken over by unprofessionals.

Yemi revealed in an interview with NigerianTribune how the gatekeepers in the Nigerian movie industry have allowed prostitutes and Yahoo boys to scar the prestigious identity of the movie industry.

“The Nollywood is not there right now. The Nolllywood you see now is all encompassing. It’s like an uncompleted building that is not guarded and what you meet there would amaze you. It has become an all comers affair, anybody can stroll in and act. All the Yahoo boy are now there, all the prostitutes that you can imagine are there.“

The actor added that the influx of such people have made it difficult for the public to identify the true actors in the industry.

“People cannot even differentiate between the core professionals and these class of clowns who have infiltrated the association, but they didn’t just fly in, some people whom you refer to as core professionals brought them in. rs in the industry.”

He finally expressed his displeasure in the state of acting and suggested possible ways to restore its former glory.

It’s just so porous that anybody can become an actor, the entry point is so porous and annoying. It’s a profession and it must be handled and treated as one. I am not really pleased with the state of the industry. It’s a professional body and we must portray ourselves as one that has mastered the art and craft of the profession.”he concluded.

Award-winning Nigierian actor, Yul Edochie has eulogised a list of his colleague Nollywood actors who he admits helped him in his acting career during its nascent days.

Taking to his official Twitter page, the father-of-four listed the names of the people in the movie industry who helped to shape his acting career. Yul Edochie noted that they have earned his respect.

According to him, Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known by his initials RMD, Ramsey Nouah, Desmond Elliot, Jim Iyke, Mike Ezuruonye, Nonso Diobi and others, all contributed to his early days in the industry.

He reminisced those days he would rent their videos from video clubs when he is broke just to copy their acting skills. The 38 year-old actor is the son of the veteran actor, Pete Edochie.

Nollywood comic actor, John Okafor popularly known Mr Ibu has caused a stir on social media after a picture of him with an oversized pot-belly hit the internet.

The picture was shared by celebrated music producer, SamKlef who wondered what the actor has been eating for him to get such a protruded stomach.

Many of his compatriots are at a loss on what is happening to the actor who is known for his comic acts in movies. They also cast a slur on the music producer for trying to make mockery of the act without knowing what is wrong with him.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs needs no introduction. For the past four decades, the movie icon has been beaming our lives with great stories. Today marks his 78th birthday and AfricaCelebrities.com brings you seven facts you should know about him.

1. Olu Jacobs, whose full name is Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs belongs to the Yoruba tribe which inhabit south-western Nigeria. He was born and also comes from Abeokuta, in Ogun State of Nigeria.

2. He grew up in Kano, north-western Nigeria where he attended the Holy Trinity School. He subsequently relocated to London, United Kingdom to further his eduction at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

3. He has starred in over two hundred movies with some stints in British and American productions during his nascent acting career. His Nollywood movies exceeds 180.

4. He got married to his 59 year old wife who is also an actress, Joke Silva some 31 years ago. They met during a programme to mark Nigeria’s 21st independence anniversary in 1981 and got married eight years later. They share two children, Olusoji and Olugbenga

5. His parents had wanted him to pursue a career in law but his passion for acting rendered that dream futile. He switched to an acting school when he was sent to London to further his education.

6. He has reduced his presence on the acting sphere as his age would not allow him to grace the screens like he used to do. At 78, Olu Jacobs thinks it is time to quit acting. Unfortunately none of his two boys wants to carry on the legacy as they are both interested in other stuffs.

7. Olu Jacobs has bagged so many awards that a single post would not contain it. Prominent among them is Lifetime Achievement award bestowed on him by Africa Movie Academy in 2017.

The popular movie star who is known for playing human sacrifice roles took to his Instagram page to share the great news with his numerous fans.
