A 47-year-old man, one Eromosele Mahmud, has been arrested by the Rivers state police command for allegedly raping his daughter for the past five years and impregnating her in the process.

Mahmud, a single parent and father of three from the Esako West Local Government Area of Edo State but resident in Port Harcourt, according to the spokesperson of the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, confessed that he has been raping his own daughter since she was 12.

He revealed to the police that he doesn’t know what pushed him to start sleeping with his own child but his daughter began enjoying their sexual intercourse and was the one who initiated it sometimes.

The victim disclosed to the police during an interrogation that her father becomes hostile towards her and would not pay her school fees whenever she refused to have sex with him.

“It was my father who impregnated me; he started having sex with me when I was 12-year-old till now. The first time he came and lay with me on the bed, when I tried to scream, he told me to shut up that my mates were doing the same thing and anytime I refused to allow him, he would not buy anything for me and he would refuse to pay my school fees.” she said.

When interrogated, Mahmud said

“This is a battle I have tried to fight over the years and it seems to be much bigger than me. I am not going to withdraw any fact or truth as far as this case is concerned. If this is the only way my daughter can be liberated if I go to prison, then it is good. My happiness is that I am relieved even as I speak to you now.

I can’t really remember when it started, but like I told you, it’s more of a spiritual thing. It is very unusual for a father to be sleeping with his own daughter. I am not a party to abortion, so whatever it is, the social welfare people and other government officials involved in this matter know the best way to handle this pregnancy. As a father, I cannot support abortion for my daughter, what if anything happens to her in the process.

I don’t rape her regularly; it happens once or twice in a year; she used to be very cooperative, even when I don’t want it, she tries to force herself on me.”

Mahmud would be charged to court once investigations have been concluded according to the state police command spokesperson.

The police in Nigeria has arrested give women in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State as they were trading in the sale of babies.

Roseline Nwokocha from Umuahia believed to be the ring leader was arrested together with her junior sister, Chioma as they were bargaining the sale of a baby.

She told investigators that she buys the babies for one million naira and sell them to other people at 1.1 million naira making 100,000 naira as her profit.

The five women all had different roles they play ranging from getting the babies to finding prospective customers for their illicit trade.

They were not able to name the couple they claim were in need of the baby that was in their possession at the time of their arrest. The police has since began processes to return the baby to its mother.

The women will also be arraigned before a law court for trial. If found guilty they could be imprisoned for a substantial amount of years.

A Rivers State pastor has tested positive for the coronavirus after he prayed for a female congregant of his church who had the disease.

The woman who is now deceased called her pastor for prayers instead of visiting the hospital. Her two children have also been infected.

This was made known by the governor of the state, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike in a press briefing on the coronavirus situation in the south-central state.

He directed face masks is now mandatory and social distance will be enforced as the state has recorded 13 cases and two deaths.
