Stephen Appiah, former captain of the Ghana National Football team is celebrating his birthday today.

The footballer in a post on his instagram page mentioned that he’s not celebrating because it’s just a normal day but because a legend, was born. He praised his God and added he’s thankful for the grace to live this far.

News of former footballers challenging to lead the football associations of their respective country is not new. It wasn’t long ago when former Ivorian international and Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba declared his intention to run for the FA presidency in Ivory Coast.

Today, reports coming in indicate that former Ghana Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah has hinted on contesting for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency.

According to the him, he has gathered valuable knowledge along his career and possesses qualities that will benefit the Ghanaian game. Adding that there will come a period in the near future where the game of football in Ghana will be heavily governed by former players.

“The criteria to be part of this Association requires you to associate yourself with a club and that is what we are not doing.

Some of us are having meetings and we are thinking about a lot of things.

“When you go to Europe football is run by footballers. We are still learning and watching whatever is going on so when we come we don’t make the same mistakes.

“As I said never say never one day it will happen” he concluded with a coy smile.

The Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association have set October 25th 2019 as the day when a new President will be elected.

The 2019 FA Presidency however, is expected to be keenly contested with former GFA Vice Presidents Fred Pappoe and George Afriyie officially confirming their bid to run.

Former GFA Executive Committee member Wilfred Osei Kweku popularly known simply as Palmer as well as Dreams FC Chairman Kurt Okraku are also among  a few of the prominent names vying for the position.
