Harry Ayoade Akande was born on the 3rd of March 1943 to Pa Joseph Afolabi at Orita Merin, Ibadan and Chief Mrs. Regina Akande of Olagoke family of Oje.

His Educational Background:

Harry Akande started his educational career from Sacred Heart Nursery School, Idikan, and continued to St. James Primary School in Oke Bola, Ibadan and later to the Abadina School, also in Ibadan.

He was later admitted into Olivet Heights International School in 1957, and records from that institution shows that not only was he brilliant in academics, but also very proficient in sports.

In 1969, Chief Akande obtained his MBA from Northwestern University, Kellogg’s Graduate school of Management to become the prestigious school’s first graduate of African ancestry.

His Career and Accomplishments:

Chief Akande has been involved in the execution of infrastructural development projects across Africa and the Caribbean to the tune of over $2 billion in the last 20 years, with business activities cutting across computer, aviation, telecommunications, management and petrochemical industries.

In 1970, Chief Akande returned to Nigeria, having filled positions as financial consultant with KPMG, Peat Marwick and Standard Oil Corporation in the USA.

Chief Harry Akande established AIC Limited and became the president of New African Technical & Electrical Company (NAFTEC); a representative company of General Electric (G.E) America, which subsequently executed the major Gas Turbine Electricity Projects at Ughelli, ljora, and Delta II-IV.

In 1976, his company, Engineering and Power Development Nigeria Limited (EPDN), in association with Balfour Beatty Engineering of UK was established. AIC Limited in conjunction with Wimpey of UK, undertook the Hydroelectric Power Installation & Construction of Oyan dam, and in conjunction with EPDN designed and supervised the Balanga Dam and irrigation scheme in Bauchi in 1980 and 1982 respectively.

Again, his company AIC in conjunction with Costain International was involved in the Osogbo- Ede Water Scheme. It was at the time, the largest water project in Africa at 35mgd capacity.

Among other projects executed by Chief Akande’s company are: The Bauchi Township water supply scheme in 1988, financed by the African Development Bank (ADB) to the tune of $70 million. This project set the precedence for many subsequent schemes. The Benin city and Warri/Effurun 35mgd water supply project in 1989 also financed by the ADB to the tune of $120 million.

AIC in 1991 was appointed to oversee the complete rehabilitation and refurbishment of Nigeria’s National Art Theater. AIC in 1994 appointed consultants for the reconstruction of the Ibadan-Ilorin Highway, 136km four lane dual carriage way, financed by the ADB.

AIC also undertook he feasibility study for the Point-a-Pierre refinery in Trinidad also in 1994 The Keffi/Akwanga, Doma and Jos Bukurru water supply scheme engineered and supervised by AIC in 1995, financed by ADB at $165 million.

The $200 million AIC/Hilton Hotel at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos was initiated in 1999. The AIC/Hilton Abidjan- a 5-star hotel was valued at $120 million in 2000 and has 500 rooms.

Chief Akande was also associated with the development of the Crystal Palace hotel, a 1000 bedroom hotel in Nassau, Bahamas as well as Las Quevas Bay Hotel in Trinidad and Tobago.

Azeez Adeshina Fashola is a Nigerian musician popularly known as Naira Marley. He was born on 10 May 1989.

Naira Marley left Nigeria at the age of 11 to Peckham in the United Kingdom. He rose to fame in 2018 with the remix of ‘Issa goal’ which features Olamide and Lil Kesh.

The day after his hit single “I’m I a Yahoo boy” dropped online, Naira Marley and four others were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was arrested for alleged money laundering.

Marley, known for his single “Issa Goal”, was slammed with 11- count charges. He was granted bail for N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

Shortly after his release, Marley made a live video where he revealed that he has been arrested 24 times when he was still living in England.

Dammy Krane

Oyindamola Johnson Emmanuel, popularly known as Dammy Krane, is a Nigerian singer, composer and performer. In January 2012, at age 20, he signed a record deal with Hypertek Digital and 960 Music Group. He is most famous for his single hit “My Dear”.

In 2017, Dammy Krane was arrested in the US reportedly for grand theft, credit card fraud and identity fraud.

In the days that followed more allegations were reported that he had used a stolen credit card to book a private jet from the company Tap Jets while in Miami.

The company had detected the alleged fraud due to discrepancies in the credit card information he had provided. He was released from jail in Miami after meeting his bail conditions, set at $7,500.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and demanded a trial by jury. The singer was assigned an attorney and was billed to appear in court on June 23, 2017.

His mother maintained the innocence of her son blaming his troubles on the show promoter that booked his flight ticket.

In August 2017, American courts struck out all charges including credit card forgery, armed conspiracy and grand theft filed against him.

September 16, 2019, He was also arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command on three counts of threat to life, defamation and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The musician was alleged to have threatened the lives of staff members of a betting company, Merrybet Gold Limited, on July 25, 2019, and also released a song in which he accused the firm of a breach of contract.

According to the prosecutor, J. I. Enang, Dammy Krane threatened the betting company by posting an audio and video message on the radio in contravention of Section 168 (d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law.

He was however granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum and case adjourned to October 11.

Ibinabo Fiberesima

Ibinabo Fiberesima, born January 13, 1970, is a Nigerian film actress, ex-beauty pageant and event manager. She is a former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

In 2009, Ibinabo was charged for manslaughter and reckless driving after she accidentally killed a certain Giwa Suraj in 2006. Fiwa Suraj was a medical doctor of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital.

On March 16, 2016, Ibinabo was sacked as President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria and sentenced to a 5-year jail term by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Sinzu

Rapper Babalola Falemi popularly known as Sinzu or Sause Kid was jailed for two years in the United States for aggravated identity theft.

He was said to have stolen bank card numbers and identified information of their owners. Sinzu was said to have stolen over 15 bank cards.

Sinzu was arrested as he was about to board a flight. It was gathered the police found a card encoding device and more than $6000 on him.

According to Idaho Statesman, the rapper was charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, eight counts each of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft, and possession of several fraudulent bank cards.

He pleaded guilty to one of the counts of aggravated identity theft after the other charges were dropped. He was jailed for two years for aggravated identity theft.

In 2018, a video surfaced on Instagram, captioned “My bro is back!! SINZU”.

Uche Odoputa

Uche Odoputa is a Nollywood actor and television personality who has won a number of awards over the course of his acting career.
In 2007, he was also arrested with cocaine at the international airport in Lagos.

According to him, he wasn’t getting any substantial movie roles, and could not afford to feed or house himself and his family.

In 2018, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully landed their InSight Lander Spacecraft on one of the closest planetary neighbors of Earth- Mars.

The mission aims to dig deeper beneath the surface and investigate Mars’ genetic makeup.

Among the team of NASA scientists who worked on the mission, Ghanaian scientist, Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu, an innovator helped NASA to deploy the lander on the surface of Mars.

As a child in Ghana, Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu watched planes take off and was inspired by the possibility of autonomous aircrafts.

Today he is the innovator robotically deploying and installing landers autonomously on other planets.

Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu is a Chief Engineer at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Robotics department of NASA and has worked there since 1999; over 20 years.

He led the team for the Instrument Deployment System- a system which consists of a robotic arm and two cameras- whose main responsibility was picking up instrument that would explore Mars and installing it on the surface of the planet.

Describing some details of his work on the mission, he said: “We have to make sure that when our robots pick up the instruments, they don’t drop them.

“So we designed a grab hole that basically when it’s closed, the power is off so that when somethings happens, the instrument will still be safe.

Further stating that: “When we are going to deploy the instrument on Mars, we practice to make sure that everything is going work successfully and then we run on Mars.

As InSight continues on its mission to collect data on Mars, Ollennu hope it will help his team gain a better understanding of how rock planets like Earth and Mars form.

Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu disclosed the reason why he likes being an engineer is solving problems. For him, it doesn’t matter what the problem is, he would just jump in and solve the problem because it brings a lot of joy.

Adding that its the challenge of solving problems hundreds of million miles away that excites him.
