Three to Die for Albino Ritual Murder in Malawi

Published

on

A court in Malawi has handed down the death sentence to three men who were found guilty of murdering a child with albinism. The trio killed the child and cut off his limbs before burying his torso in a shallow grave.

People with albinism are regular targets for ritual killers who hunt them like prey and use the body parts for spiritual potions. They believe such potions can make them rich and successful in their jobs.

The practice is wide-spread in eastern and southern African countries like Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique. The court judgement is the latest severe punishment aimed at stopping the string of the murder of albinos.
