Xenophobia: Flight To Return Nigerians From South Africa Postponed

On Wednesday, Ferdinand Nwonye, the spoke person of the Nigerian government ministry announced plans for Air Peace airline to bring back Nigerians from South Africa “free of charge”.

However, reports coming in now indicate that this will no longer happen on 6 September as earlier reported.

On Friday, Allen Onyema, chairman of Air Peace, said the planned September 6 evacuation had to postponed because the passports of most of the Nigerians who want to return have expired.

Onyema said they have began processes to renew the passport of those who wish to return to Nigeria.

He also added that their Boeing 777 plane has been on standby since 3 September and will take off from the city of Lagos and return there.

The Nigerian government has also began registration of the passengers who will board the flight and according to Onyema, they started the registration process in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The new scheduled dates for the evacuation will 9 September or 10 September.
