Some NDC Leaders Know They Can’t Win 2020 Elections- Former President Rawlings

Indeed, coming events cast their shadows. The year 2020 is an election year in Ghana and so far as history can tell, many revelations and issues crop up.

As Ghanaians gear towards the 2020 election, fierce contest is expected between the two main political parties in the country; the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However before we even get to 2020, the Former President and also founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings, has alleged that some leaders in the party know very well they are not contesting the 2020 elections to win but only using it as means to cement their place into the 2024 elections.

He said this at the National Cadres Conference in Kumasi. According to the former president, “there are some amongst us- in the leadership- who initially didn’t think that after four years you can wrestle power from these people [NPP], he said.

And yet they have gone ahead and almost purchased the power of this party into their pockets and claiming to be aiming towards 2020, when I know- when some of you should know- that their aim is not really towards 2020.

You’ve secured 2020 out of the way for yourself so that nobody will…you will be the whatever..knowing damn well that you just want to pass through when you know 2024 is your target, he concluded.

It was only this weekend that the NPP also held their primaries to elect parliamentary aspirants for the 2020 election in which the DCE of Pusiga was hospitalized after losing.
