Residents of Cape Town, South Africa were on Friday blown away literally by strong winds on the streets.

The winds which were fiercely strong posed a great challenge to walkers and cyclists alike in the CBD.

In a video captured, one can see people clutching onto poles and holding onto anything really to prevent themselves from going with the wind.

A scooter driver was almost carried away with his scooter. He was forced to stop by the pavement with his scooter until it was safe.

Another scooter driver needed help from pedestrians to prevent him from being blown away on the middle of the road.

According to the weather man, the strong winds were caused by a pressure gradient between a high and low pressure system.

“The tight pressure gradient between the high and low pressure systems along the coast is causing the high wind speed,” the weather forecast announced.

The strong winds forced the closure of the Table Mountains tourist site over the weekend.

The table mountains is one of the most visited tourist attraction in South Africa.

However, the mountain’s aerial cable-way could not be in use with reports of winds at the top of the mountain reaching speeds of over 100km/h.

Despite the strong winds, no casualties were reported. Many people stayed home over the weekend to avoid being caught in the strong winds.
