Lagos Couple Arrested For Allegedly Murdering Housemaid And Making It Look Like A Suicide

A Nigerian couple based in Lagos have been arrested by the police for the death of their 19-year old house help.

Mr. and Mrs Fortune Stephens were arrested by the Operative f State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of Lagos for the death of Joy Okom Adole.

It was reported that the couple called the police to report that Joy had committed suicide on April 20th after they had a misunderstanding.

According to reports, the police came to meet the lifeless body hanging from a rope in her room. The couple was taken in for questioning and upon further investigations, different stories were given on why the maid committed suicide.

The deceased family insists their daughter was beaten to death by either Mrs. Stephens or both and framed it up as a suicide. It was reported that Joy was planning to leave the place she was not well paid but was unable to leave due to the lockdown.

The family questioned how possible it is for someone to commit suicide with her legs still touching the floor.

DSP Bala Elkana confirmed the incident to the press saying the police suspected foul play when they visited the crime scene and saw the position of the rope and wounds all over the deceased.

He added that investigations are on going to find how the deceased sustained wounds if it was indeed a suicide.
