American rapper, Kanye West who turned from hip hop to gospel music has been named by Billboard as the top gospel artiste of the year.

The failed presidential aspirant ‘repented’ from secular music to gospel and even started his own church as a pastor.

Kanye West beat off competition from other world classed gospel singers to the top spot. Billboard released a statement where they detailed how the list was compiled.

This was announced last night by the publication, as Kanye beat out Kirk Franklin at No. 2, Tasha Cobbs Leonard at No. 3, Sunday Service Choir at No. 4, Travis Greene at No. 5, Marvin Sapp at No. 6, Kierra Sheard at No. 7, Koryn Hawthorne at No. 8, Maverick City Music at No. 9, and Jonathan McReynolds at No. 10.

As for Top Male Gospel Artist, Kanye beat out Kirk Franklin who sits at No. 2, Travis Green at No. 3, Marvin Sapp at No. 4, and Jonathan McReynolds at No. 5. See report below;

West’s 2019 album, his first spiritual-themed set, Jesus Is King, opened atop Top Gospel Albums, Top Christian Albums, and the all-genre Billboard 200.

In its opening week on the Nov. 9, 2019, dated lists, the set earned 264,000 equivalent album units, the biggest week ever for a faith-based album. Since its arrival, Jesus Is King has spent more than a year at No. 1 and is the No. 1 album on the Top Gospel Albums year-end tally.

The No. 2 Christian Album of 2020 also comes from West’s world. Jesus Is Born, credited to the Sunday Service Choir (with production by West), finishes in the runner-up position.

After just a day-and-a-half of tracking, Jesus Is Born entered Billboard‘s Top Gospel Albums chart (dated Jan. 4, 2020) at No. 2 starting with 6,000 equivalent album units earned (3,000 in album sales) in the week ending Dec. 26, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Jesus Is Born peaked at No. 2 on Top Gospel Albums, not making it to the summit only because West’s own Jesus Is King LP was dominating at No. 1. Sunday Service Choir is also the leading gospel group of 2020.

Meanwhile, the lead track on Jesus Is King, “Follow God,” is the No. 1 song of the year on Hot Gospel Songs, which is powered by streaming, airplay and sales. “Follow God” has spent more than 40 weeks at No. 1. Concurrently, it is the No. 1 song on the year-end Gospel Streaming Songs list and No. 2 on Gospel Digital Song Sales.

Plus, West’s “Wash Us in the Blood,” featuring Travis Scott, is the No. 4 Hot Gospel Songs title of 2020. “Wash Us” started at No. 1 on both Hot Gospel Songs and Hot Christian Songs on the surveys dated July 11. It reigned for eight weeks on the former and two frames on the latter. It’s also the No. 1 song of 2020 on Gospel Digital Song Sales.

American hip hop rapper and televangelist, Kanye West has added his voice to the cries of ordinary Nigerians to disband the SARS unit of the police force.

Nigerian youth, led by the celebrities have been protesting to get the Special Anti-Robbery Squad – SARS disbanded.

The people are accusing SARS of killings, harassment and extortions. What sparked the latest uproar was the killing of an unarmed man in Lagos.

Kanye West becomes the latest to solidarize with the Nigerian youth.

In a tweet he wrote on his verified Twitter handle, the rapper said, the government should listen to the cries of the citizens.

He pledged his support for the #EndSARS protests to bring to an end SARS and police brutalities.

His tweet reads: “I stand with my Nigerian brothers and sisters to end police brutality. the government must answer to the peoples cries #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria”.

American rapper Kanye West has done the unthinkable on social media today by dropping his Grammy Award into his water closet and peeing on it to make a point.

Kaye has been on a rant on twitter, venting out his displeasure on what he tags as ‘a push for Black ownership in enterprise’.

Ye posted a video as part of his rant which showed one of his 21 Grammy awards in his toilet bowl and he urinating on the trophy.

He added a caption that summed up his actions, “Trust me … I WONT STOP,” he captioned the video posted to Twitter.

Although his face is not seen in the video, it is almost impossible to assume that a stranger will be in Kanye West’s washroom with his award in the toilet bowl and wearing the rapper’s favorite shoes.

His rant began early Wednesday about African-Americans, by and large, not getting their fair share of the pie, instead, he says they’re mostly used by companies run by whites.

Kanye West and Pastor Joel Osteen on this week’s Sunday Service took the world by surprise when they walked on water just like how Jesus did in the bible.

The musician and Presidential candidate and his gospel choir gave a performance from the middle of lake on Sunday September 6 to bring back to live the story of Jesus walking on water to meet his disciples.

Pastor Joel Osteen also gave a sermon from the water. Later on, Kanye and his children walked to the same lake while the choir sang a rendition of O Fortuna from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana featuring lyrics in English including: “Jesus is love”.

“Watching these fine men and women sing, it looks like they are walking on water. My mind goes back to that time where Jesus invited Peter to walk on the water. I can imagine Peter thought ‘Jesus, what are you talking about? That’s impossible! I can’t do that.

“I think we all have that in times in life where we think ‘God is telling me to do something. I feel it down inside.’ But we don’t feel quantified or have the experience,” he said.
