Malawian newly elected president, Lazarus Chakwera has made a clarion call on his citizens to pray away the coronavirus as the south-eastern African country records a consistent surge in confirmed cases.

The president in an address urged all religiously inclined citizens and residents of Malawi to fast and pray for three days starting Thursday.

The president also declared this coming Sunday a national day of thanksgiving to show appreciation for its low recorded cases as compared to nearby South Africa which has the highest cases on the continent.

Lazarus Chakwera is a former pastor who served as the head of the Malawian branch of the Assemblies of God Church for almost two and a half decades.

He beat the then incumbent president Peter Mutharika in last month’s election rerun without having any prior political experience.

Malawi has so far recorded almost 2,500 coronavirus cases with the death toll pegged at 40, one of the lowest on the African continent.

President of Tanzania, H.E John Magufuli, on Monday June 8, declared Tanzania free of the global pandemic, Coronavirus.

After what he describes as a fervent plea to God Almighty, the President expressed joy for the total elimination of the virus from the East African country.

“It gives me joy to be the leader of a country that puts God first, God loves Tanzania. The works of the devil will always be defeated in Tanzania because Tanzanians love God and that is why even the corona has been defeated by God.”

As at April 29, cases of the virus was at 509 with 21 deaths but the country stopped publishing data of the cases and the World Health Organization has expressed concerns.

Mr. Magufuli has on many occasions debunk news that the country is overwhelmed by the virus and continue to encourage the gathering of citizens especially in churches.

Taking to his social media handles, Kofi Kinaata narrated how difficult and taunting it became for him to stay away from food. He echoed the emotional torment he endured and how every thing around him smelled or spoke of food.

In a very funny video, Kofi Kinaata said he decided to take a nap so he could dodge the temptation of eating but had a dream where food was being prepared.

The Information Ministry of Ghana yesterday in a press briefing hinted that there has been an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the country as those that were said to be on a mandatory quarantine numbering over 1,030 are reported to have added 20 more cases to the existing number.

The president said:

“I have called you to this prayer meeting for us to join together and pray to the Almighty God to protect our nation, heal this land and save us from this pandemic,” the President said and added, “We are also putting into practice the hope of the words in the holy scriptures in James 5:14 and 15 and I quote ‘If anyone among you sins let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil and a prayer offered in faith will raise him up.”
