The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, has slammed the government for its role in the Lekki Toll Gate shooting incident that happened on Tuesday October 20.

The traditional monarch noted that the Federal government should have listened to the concerns of the youth long time ago and address their concerns.

This, according to him would have prevented the issue from degenerating to the chaos that’s been witnessed across the country in recent days.

The grand monarch made this remarks yesterday, Tuesday October 27 during the stakeholders meeting that was held at the House of Chiefs, the Parliament Building Agodi Secretariat Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

He stated a similar incident that happened in South Africa in 1960 whiles noting that the protest has affected more traditional rulers than even government officials.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the the ransacking of Senator Teslim Folarin’s home in Oluyole area of Ibadan, Oyo state’s capital.

There were earlier reports that some people had broken into the home of the Senator and made away with some motorcycles.

Addressing newsmen, the elder brother of the Senator, Yinka Folarin stated that the suspects were arrested at the residence of the law maker by “Operation Burst”, a Joint Security task force in Oyo.

He revealed also that, the looted items were meant for the 11 local government areas that makes up the Oyo Central Senatorial District.

Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who remains the governor of Ondo State has characterized the demise of Abiola Ajimobi, the late former governor of Oyo State as an individual misfortune.

Akeredolu disclosed that in an announcement marked by Ojo Oyewamide, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity expressed that the former governor was appraised as a pith of boldness and knowledge and would always stay in the hearts of all.

The public announcement further stated that:

“Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN receives with a deep sense of loss, the demise of Senator Abiola Isiaka Ajimobi, former Governor of Oyo State.

He is personally touched and feels the sense of a great loss for many reasons. Aside his political affinity with the late Ajimobi whom he fondly referred to as Egbon, Governor Akeredolu recalls the memorable days of their shared communality and brotherliness in the City of Ibadan prior to their venture into politics.”

The demise of the former Governor prods remarkably nostalgic moments. Twice, he had cause to be Ajimobis Lead Counsel in defense of his gubernatorial mandate; and on both occasions, they savoured victorious moments.”

Akeredolu further stated that Senator Ajimobi rendered massive support as he aspired for the governorship of Ondo State in 2012 and 2016 second attempt.

Alagba, the 344-year-old tortoise in the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, in Oyo State Nigeria is dead. The scared tortoise which was the oldest in Africa was sick for a few days before her death on Thursday.

Confirming the news of Alagba’s demise to the Nigerian Tribune, the Private Secretary to Oba Oyewumi, Toyin Ajamu, stressed that the tortoise, which attracted people from all over the world, will be greatly missed by everyone who came in contact with her during her lifetime.

According to Ajamu: “Alagba had lived in the palace for centuries. The tortoise played host to many monarchs in Ogbomoso in the past. Alagba became popular because Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Soun of Ogbomosho land, used his personal resources to cater for her well being.

The tortoise had two staff members of the palace dedicated to her. They provide food, health support, and other logistics, so as to make sure she gets the best treatment.

Often times, Kabiyesi shared great moments with Alagba. On a daily basis, Alagba, had tourists visiting her, from different parts of the world. The palace household, Ogbomoso community, and stakeholders in the tourism sector are mourning Alagba’s passing.”

The palace secretary explained that plans were underway to preserve Alagba’s body for historical records.
