34-year-old Austin Chenge, a native of Benue State in Nigeria, has joined the race to become governor for US state of Michigan.

Austin Chenge is not only the first Nigerian to contest for the position but he is the first Republican to to do, according to Head of Media and Public Relation unit of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Mr Abdul-Rahman Balogun.

Mr. Balogun said Chenge made his intentions to run for governor of Michigan known in March 2020. He will be challenging USA Representative Lamar Smith for the seat under the ticket of the Republican Party.

A statement from the NiDCOM added, “Chenge is a Law graduate from the University of Birmingham, England. Since the year 2018, he has been serving with the US military as a specialist.

“He is decorated with the Achievement Medal as a Distinguished Honour Graduate with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 99.8% and for exceptional performance while on active duty.”

The Nigerian born politician is famous locally for creating a tricycle known as “Wazobia tricycle” in 2016 to improve the lives of peasant farmers in Africa.

Famous Nigerian clergyman, Prophet Samuel Abiara, has sent a stern warning to politicians and government workers in the country against stealing COVID-19 funds.

The clergyman of the Christ Apostolic Church said the families of such thieves will be followed by generational curses.

He made this public in a statement to appreciate the government for reopening worship centers, released on Monday, August 10.

Parts of his statement reads, “For those who are in charge of the donation of money, food items, etc, God said you must not steal anything from the money, food and all items donated for COVID-19 for yourself. If you do that, curses of the pandemic will be in the family of those who do this,”
