54-Year-Old Nigerian gay Priest, Jide Macaulay, claims the real meaning of gay is ” God Accepts You, God Adores You, God Anoints You and God Assured You”.

Jide who founded the first gay church in Nigeria, House of Rainbow, disclosed in an interview with The Huffinton Post how his family struggled to accept his gender and how a bible verse helped him uncover his true identity.

“Over the years, Gay has become powerful for me and as a person of faith, I believe that Gay means God Accepts You, God Adores You, God Anoints You and God Assured You” he said.

”Being a black gay man is never easy. My journey and education started at home. I was raised in a conservative Nigerian Christian Home and it was also around the time I also discovered the bible text on Homosexuality, particularly in Leviticus. 

I struggled with it at the time but it took me years later for me to reverse the biblical or theological misunderstanding of who I am and what the bible says. The challenge for me is being able to communicate my feelings to my parents and also to my siblings. It did not happen until years later. ” he added.

Jide Macaulay said he hopes his life teaches queer people to believe that they are still God’s children irrespective of their sexual preference.

Nigerian Actor and Film director, Yul Edochie has opined that the vow of celibacy on priesthood should be revoked and Catholic Priests allowed to marry.

On twitter today, Yul Edochie addressed the century old doctrine saying he has grown to understand that the sexual desires of the Priests are being infringed on with the ban.

He further warned his followers not to probe further as to why he is making such stand.

“Now that I’m older and wiser, I believe it’s best for Catholic priests to be allowed to get married. DON’T ASK ME WHY!” he tweeted.

His assertion has raised a lot of conversation as many believe Priesthood is a voluntary work and no one is mandated to join the cult.

A twitter user replied, Fabulouz – They don’t force any one to join the priesthood…. Its the individual choice to choose whether or not they want to become one (priest). They shouldn’t join the Family if he or she wants to get married..

Frank Eke also wrote, The vow of celibacy is a doctrinal error; you may vow in the zeal of youth and fall to the passion of sexuality. Bound but broken vows is a technical default of Christian rule. Don’t ask me to explain!

Another person said, Patrick_noble – Now you’re “older and wiser”, u shld as wel knw tht D call for celebacy is not for everyone. It entails an introspective and critical examinatn of one’s life b4 opting for priesthood. Those who’re called to priesthood need not marry. They faithfully keep to the oath of celebacy.

It is not uncommon for men of God to preach against fornication, alcohol addiction, drugs and crime among others, only for their words to fall on deaf ears. Very often when that happens pastors/priests are left helpless or without any option as to what to do to change the hearts of people.

Because of this, some priests have adopted a rather unusual method to wipe out fornication and drunkenness from the people. They decided to fly an aeroplane over their city and spray the evil out of the people.

The Metropolitan Savva of Tver and Kashinsky, Father Alexander Goryachev and two other members of the Russian Orthodox Church did this in honour of All-Russian Sobriety Day.

The men of God and their crew boarded the plane with 70 liters of holy water and two icons – the “Inexhaustible Chalice,” said to be able to cure people of alcohol and drug addiction.

After taking off from an airfield near the city of Tver, the clergymen strapped on their safety harnesses opened the aeroplane door, and organized a prayer service before pouring the holy water over the city.

When asked whether they care about the likelihood of people ridiculing their aerial blessing, the man of God said no amount of mockery would stop them from carrying out their priestly work.

 “What is the joke? That we’re trying to help people get rid of diseases? We promote stopping alcohol consumption, drugs and fornication — is this laughable?’ he asked, stating: “Let them laugh and we will do our job.”

As to whether the people of Tver have indeed been cured of drunkenness and fornication, time will tell.
