Shocking: Top County Officials Arrested For Corrupting Data in Ongoing Census
As the 2019 census continues, top county officials have been arrested by the police for inflating the actual number of dwellers in the households. The arrested officials incriminated are central chief in Habaswein, Wajir South constituency and his assistant together with the chief in Leheley.
The two chiefs and assistant were apprehended on Monday morning after investigations revealed malpractice. By name, these officials are chiefs Khalif Sirat, Musa Abdi and assistant Khalid May. This incident comes barely a fortnight after the regional commissioner in the area publicly cautioned chiefs together with their assistants from condoning corruption of numbers during the ongoing count.
In the wake of the incident, county commissioner Lyford Kibaara stated;
“How do you explain a situation where a household has increased by double, in some instances triple just a week after doing the pre-listing. It doesn’t add up at all.”
Commissioner Kibaara confirmed that indeed three administrators have been arrested and that he was looking for more culprits. Investigations are still ongoing into the matter.
