Shocking Twist: Unpopular Candidate Imran Okoth Wins ODM Party Ticket For The Coveted Kibra Seat
The late Ken Okoth’s brother, Imran was declared as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate for the Kibra Constituency by-election happening on November 7. An excited Imran Okoth will now face Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga, Ford Kenya’s Khamisi Butichi and ANC’s Eliud Owalo in the much anticipated by-election.
Imran emerged the winner in the ODM primaries after garnering 4,382 votes. He beat nine other aspirants in the tally held on Saturday. The party will forward his name to the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday. This is only if no one challenges his win before then.
Imran was followed by Peter Orero (1,218 votes ), John Milla Otieno (906), Ben Musungu (524), Christone Odhiambo (417), Tony Ogola (381), Stephen Okello (228), Brian Owino (127), Reuben Ojijo (52) and Eric Obayi (45).
During the campaign for the seat in Kibra, Imran was heckled by the crowd who booed him off stage. His victory therefore comes as a surprise to many of the party’s followers.
