The jollof war between Ghanaians and Nigerians will take some years to cool off; for now it doesn’t look it will end anytime soon.

The rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria dates way back in history. The two West African countries have battled each other in football, politics, economy and entertainment.


Recently, Ghana and Nigeria have had battle of words in terms of which country prepares the best jollof rice.

Jollof is mainly a West African dish cooked with a combination of rice, stew (tomato sauce) and other vegetables as well as meat or fish.

We thought the debate had finally been settled when Ghana beat Nigeria in a jollof cooking competition organized by Onga.

But the jollof war between the two countries is far from over. And UK diplomat and former British Ambassador to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, has advised Nigerians not to make Naija Meets Ghana about jollof because they will suffer home defeat.

By this, Jon Benjamin may be suggesting that Ghana jollof is superior to Nigerian jollof.

He said this in a response to Nigerian musician, Dammy Krane’s suggestion to organize a Naija meets Ghana event in Nigeria just as there is a Ghana meets Naija event organized annually in Ghana.
