Many Africans look at jobs in the United Arab Emirates as pots of gold at the end of a rainbow; some sort of saving grace from unemployment in Africa.

However, many of those jobs come at a cost. Several employees who go to these countries lured by better paying jobs end up victims of sex trafficking or slavery.

Living conditions of ”slaves” in the UAE

A Kenyan girl by the name Ivy Wamahiga took to twitter yesterday to post a tweet that stirred up quite the conversation.

”Crazy how last year was hell and now I’ve got a job I DID NOT APPLY FOR with everything catered for in a country with the highest currency in the world.

God is faithful. I’m so blessed. Kuwait is my home now whaat!!” tweeted Ivy.

Immediately after her tweet, several people shared their opinion of her ‘luck’ with more pessimistic comments than optimistic ones.

“Kuwait? Heh…madam I want to hope this ends well for you but I’m not very sure it will,” read a comment from @Timo_Utd

Another user wished Ivy the best but also shared the sad story of his friend who also went to Kuwait for work.

“A male friend got a job in Kuwait as a Data analyst, upon arrival his passport and phone were seized.

He was then taken to his workstation – a quarry to excavate, drill out and carry rocks to trucks. He is now back in Kenya after 2 years of forced labour aka slavery.”

@denogunner tweeted ”Anyone who has gone to school will tell you that there is no job without qualifications.

If it exists then the rules have been bent for a reason. I wish you all the best all the same.” he finished.

“I’ve just read an article about slavery and sex trafficking in Kuwait. All the best!” read another pessimistic comment.

Many other meaner tweets insinuated that she was going to do jobs that involve using her body.

Kinder tweets were of the opinion that she is going to be a house help of sorts; Many Africans go to the UAE to become domestic workers.

However, there are those who believe that she has been paid to advertise Kuwait as this amazing place.

In so doing, she will attract more people to go there and be used as slaves or worse.

“I’m suspicious whether she actually traveled to Kuwait or she was paid to entice gullible individuals on twitter.

The circumstances don’t make sense…I’m glad that people are aware of the dangers Africans face in Arab countries.” wrote another Kenyan on twitter.

A suspicious modeling agency in Kenya going by WeusiWarembo (black beauties) was recently put on the spotlight. The agency was accused of being a fake and recruiting girls for a sex trafficking ring.

As of today, more information has been uncovered proving that indeed, the agency was a fake. Thanks to a deep dive by Kenya’s YouTube police Edgar Obare, the truth is out. Here is the full video of the expose;

According to reputable sources, the fake agency on top of not having a website, lacks an office as well. Whenever they call ladies for interviews, they hold the meetings at a restaurant called The Lab along Ngong road Nairobi.

During the interview process, they ask questions regarding the ladies’ sex lives. Prior to the interviews, they send questionnaires for the ladies to fill with puzzling questions.

Some of the questions include; Do you fall in love easily? Are you a complainer? Do you have a bad temper? What would you do if you got pregnant because you didn’t use contraception?

When they were approached by a social media influencer pretending to be interested in the job, they refused to work with her. They claimed that they only want fresh faces but in truth, they do not want the public exposure from someone with a large following.

One of the ladies who helped expose WeusiWarembo emailed Fendi to ask if they have any affiliations with the fake company. Fendi management team replied with an email denying any sort of relationship with WeusiWarembo.

Since the expose video went up, Weusiwarembo have shut down their operation…indefinitely. They have changed the name of their Instagram page and have zero posts as of now. As we head into 2020 I cannot stress this enough; Ladies beware, there are dangerous phonies out there!

The next time you see and ad calling out for models, think twice before applying. Why you ask? You may be applying to be one in many girls being used in sex trafficking rings.

Take a case of a modelling agency in Kenya calling itself Weusiwarembo which translates to black beauties. This so called agency has an Instagram page that showcases all the Kenyan models who they have posted to model in various countries. Check the pictures below;

After enticing women with photos of beautiful models with great salaries, they call in women for interviews that are beyond shocking. When I mention great salaries, I mean monthly remuneration of USD 6000 and above. Crazy, I know!

According to Pauline, a lady called for the interview by Weusiwarembo, these are some of the questions asked; Do you have a boyfriend? How often do you have sex? What contraceptive do you use?

One of the major red flags of this modelling agency is the fact that they have no website. In fact, according to Pauline, the pictures that the agency posts of models on Instagram are of random girls; definitely not Kenyan.

Other questions asked during the interviews are whether the girls smoke weed or drink alcohol. According to a DM sent to investigative reporter Edgar Obare, one of the ladies was even asked about the craziest things she has done when drunk.

When models are issued contracts by the agency, they are told that the contracts are for 3 years. They are promised that they will be modelling for major brands like Prada, Fendi, Nike, Gucci etc. They are also informed that the brand will cater all their costs from air ticket to accommodation to work permits.

Investigation on Weusiwarembo agency are still ongoing. Therefore, africacelebrities.com cannot confirm at the moment these allegations of sex trafficking.

However, those with eyes should read this and share. Beware of modelling agencies that operate like this Weusiwarembo agency. The agency recently deleted their page on Instagram.
